So lets hear it. I started young just hitting mud holes then got more into trails and technical challenges over time. I now HATE anything deeper than my tires, if i can avoid it i will. I also enjoy loosing phone service and letting my phone go dead all weekend and not worrying about work. I like to randomly take off to Uwharrie alone (not wise i know) and turn some tunes up, hit Daniel and hang out at the top for a while, eat a sandwich and ride back home. But I also really enjoy loading it up on the trailer and preparing for going all out make it or break it style sometimes. I like the best of both, ain't scared of a dent long as it has a good story, and understand breaking is part of the deal.
I know several people that prefer it a little milder and are real careful, which is fine too. Long as we all get outdoors in a 4x4.
So here we go, a thread for everyone to share how they like to wheel. Not an argument, a discussion.

Well I started out missing with buddies going to mud pit and tearing shit up but hopefully once I get 4x4 installed in my jeep 77greenmachine is gonna invite a coworker to go wheeling and show a young one where the fun is really at things are gonna break and if they do they can be fixed nothing is indestructible in wheeling although I'm sure every one know the old saying of what jeep stands for (Just Empty Every Pocket) I'm sure it's a lot of fun with still a lot to learn which I a firm believer you never learn enough so I'm excited to see other people thoughts and opinions as well

My sanctuary, you have ruined it! Now my favorite place that has NOTHING to do with work has something to do with work!
Just kidding man, I will help you get into this addictive hobby if you insist, but only if you do a great great job at work like you have been. And don't talk about work.

Considering every other word in you post was the W word ill agree and looking forward to it ill have to send you some pics tomorrow when I go pick it up

i just like getting out in the woods and having dirt under the tires. if there are obstacles, awesome. not real fond of mud. i'll mess around in a couple inches, or fool around in a puddle, but not real into pits.

been doing this all my life. my dad called it hunting. lol. he always had jeeps to go hunting. and you know the big game is in the roughest areas. so i growed up in a jeep. needless to say my first vehicle was a 65 cj5. and back in the day almost like everyone else mud was what we played in. now i like mostly rocks or other obstacles. and the more challenging the trail the better. but i still enjoy a simple gravel rd. just need more time and $ to do it

let's see...nothing but mud here so that is how I got my start.Friend bought a 2a and a month later I bought a 3a.Then I picked up a M38 and Nellie was reborn in 1992.I'm not scared of mud and water as long as the fan doesn't surge it over the cowl and on my legs.Long distance trail riding is what I crave with self sufficiency a must.I occasionally ride UNF by myself also and never really stressed about it.No seat belts,no roll bar,and stock suspension/tire size keeps my aggressiveness in check somewhat then again I do occasionally need strapping/winching to get through a sticky spot .Callalente was the bomb and suited my style to a "T". Never been a fan of hitting the same trails twice in a weekend and I could get lost all day up there.

I like about anything I can get, but do like some sort of obstacles. A good mix, like Harlan or Windrock suits me best

started wheeling myfirst cherokee at 17 and been at since, 12 years later i love cherokees more than any other rig. small, compact, turns on a dime evenlifed up, affordable to lift, and most of all i've learned how to wheel the"horrible" jeep axles that everyone talks about on 36 TSLs and not brake them cause in the end, its more fun to keep on wheling than to go up and over a 4ft boulder ravine just to prove myself. I've broke axle joints in the front here and there but once i've put on new axles, never had an issue.

also the AW4 is unbeatable and never leaves me stranded in 12 years. i still just can't get around to upgrading to the all popular 60s that everyone talks about. One, the 60s have like NOOOO ground clearence and i've seenso many guys get hung up with them when a jeep on 33or35s just puts along. Second, I always said to myself, IF i want a rig on D60,D80, or Rockwells to go "CRAZY" "Cometition"boulder climbing, than i'll sell my 4 kids, put my wife to work on the corner, and sell my kidneys, and go buy one. than i'm set.lol but in all seriousness, somebody earlier said its all in enjoying the sport and making the best of what you got and learning how to best use your rig whatever that may be. After all, that's what this sport is all about. I wanna give props to all CHEROKEE fans out there>Keep Jeepin. Lets ALL ADMIT, everyone has seen stock cherokees and lifted cherokees do somthing where everyone arund is like DAMN, and then hooolllyyy Crap, on STOCk Axles. If you have never said or thought that than u haven't been around some people who really know how to use one.

I've wheeled at Uwharrie alone, and enjoy just riding the trails and taking it a little easy since I know I don't have backup with me and the trailer is miles away. I also like dropping the hammer on hill climbs at places like the Flats knowing that my trailer is walking distance away.

I drive around mud pits.

I do most of my wheeling alone, but I don't typically do anything extreme. I don't have a winch, and would rather be called a puss than break stuff and buy more expensive stuff. I like mud, trails and expedition type wheeling. I have nothing to prove to anyone, and just prefer getting away where no one can find me.

I have also recently started to enjoy trips where I load what I need in the jeep and live out of it for a few days, especially solo camping trips.

As far as 4ft cliffs and huge boulders, it's not about showing off or proving a point. If I have my trailer, I go all out. No matter who is watching. But when I went to gulches in SC I took it easy untill I had done everything else, then my last day I gave it all I had. I really enjoy adventurous camping trips, but I truly enjoy seeing what me and my rigs limit is sometimes as well. If it breaks, oh well. Time for upgrades.

yeah, see I cant wait to have a trailer cause thats when it would be no holds barred for me as well but yeah, without a trailer, i always have to drive home so i hear you there. having a trailer is a big advantage and peace of mind.

Understood...I didn't mean to offend or insult...I just meant I'm not going to let my ego or a surrounding crowd get the best of me. I know the limits of my rig, and I'm good with that...if I want to try something, I will...I want to test a new part/upgrade, I will. I just won't be coaxed in to doing something because some one (who won't be footing the bill) thinks it'll be awesome on youtube.

There is always that jerk standing in front going "nail it, you got!" Who laughs and rolls out when you break. I hate that guy, and do not wheel with people like that. I encourage people to push it, but only when I know they are aware of the potential disaster and can fix it, and I don't mind helping out.

I see plenty of people in stock jeeps creeping around taking it easy. I like those people too, I especially like seeing them a year later with upgrades and talking about going more. That guy is usually accompanied by a nagging wife who doesn't understand! Lol

Ps no offense taken

This may sound weird, but I think I actually enjoyed wheeling better when my jeep was closer to stock than I do now that it is built. I'm considering downgrading.

If you sale the axles in your sig let me know!

I'll hit just about anything. Not real fond of hill killer type trails and mud pits though. I'm not as wild as I used to be but I still have fun. Trash talk is a must and I will be that guy tell you to "mat it". sometimes that's just what's needed for the situation.

My current style of wheeling is moving the jeep out of the shop when I need to cleanup and reorganize. I enjoy wheeling in the mountains on smooth rocks. Mud is fun, just not fun afterwards, and as I've gotten older, I hate getting dirty and sloshing through mud.

Trade built D30/D35 for HP44/9"????

I also enjoyed closer to stock better.

I enjoy trail riding like some of the ole timers speak of. There's just not much of that around.

I've always wanted an expedition style vehicle and do a 3-4 trip out to the middle of nowhere and camp out each night in a differnet spot. Hard to do that in NC.

I like the obstacles. The bigger the better. Anybody that has wheeled with me knows that my goal is to take a new jeep and follow buggies wherever they may go while cranking the radio and the air conditioning. I want to be scared. That's how I like it.

Are we still talking about wheeling???!!

Bigger the better for me too! Muddy or not I am there! Love the rocks. I do miss the stock days though.
