Yup, bench grinder dressing tool.

Yup. Grinder dresser. Wish mine was that nice.

That one looks like its all used up though.
The spokes are supposed to be kinda rounded points

The boys found it down in the barn and wanted to know what it was. They asked if I had "that thing on my phone where I can take a picture and it will tell me what something is." I told them, yes, yes I do.

Used for sure, but not used up. It'll still throw little supersonic bits of grinding wheel all over you if I had to bet :D

The patent mentioned low HP vehicles like golf carts and sweepers, and describes it as a combination transmission/reducer/differential. I assume that the chain drive goes to a solid axle on something like a golf cart because it's cheap/easy/modular.

Right. My mind was thinking of some early Jeep winches that were PTO driven, or like a hydraulic pump on dump trucks, & such.

Bought something similar from amazon recently - 1 carat for $18

Yeah...they were never really expensive being man made and/or shit diamonds...but the idea of lets hold this dense, pointed object, against a wheel spinning 2000+ rpm, with only about 1" between your fingers and the wheel, oh...by the way, it heats up in your hand while you're dressing the wheel...because heat transfer, just never seemed like a good idea.

Yes, I know they have blocks and chucks and jigs for those things, especially for magnetic tables...or coulda used gloves or vise grip...but then it's not as funny to think about when you rationalize it.

Spent some time with golf carts. i cant see a place where that fits in. by the looks of it, it takes a horizontal shaft motor and transfers the power to a vertical shaft. that shifter is made to sit below and between the legs

id probably look to a 1970s cub cadet yard tractor...

What is the piece circled called?
I’ve googled all the terms I can think of. It is a weld on fitting of some sort. 7/8 stainless tube in photo.
