Who here is driving a the ford Diesel 6.0

When I was there a couple weeks ago it seemed like more Dodges than anything. Would be nice to know an average.

I'd heard from the Toyota place I bought my wifes car from a couple years ago that Toyota was in the process of building an one ton diesel truck. Anybody else heard this? Imagine the bail outs the American car mfg. would have to have if Toyota imported a one ton diesel.

Yea I heard a while back that they were looking into making a one ton the a CAT engine in it.

Toyota has Hino Trucks as an affiliate, they out'a steal a stout engine and manual tranny from them and put it in the mega cab Tundra with a beefed up frame.

Considering CAT no longer makes a single over the road engine, thats pretty doubtful.

The Toy package would be a Hino. Nissan is working on a small V6 Cummins truck that should sell in the US in '15. CAT and CM had a deal done and CAT walked from the table...then GM went to isuzu and started the duramax.

I drive an hour and 10 minutes one way to work each day. My opinion of the reliability of diesel trucks is based on what I see sitting on the side of road during my hour and 10 minute journey to and from work each day.

I've posted enough in this thread but I drive a 6.0 and have had one lemon law'd from Ford as Shawn likes to point out, and I have worked for Cummins for 9 years. Would prefer a Cummins but dont want the dodge.

That said the problem with your flawed logic is in those years Ford outsold Dodge and GM combined by nearly a 1.5-1 clip. So since there are nearly 4 times as many 6.0s as eiither of the other, it stands to reason that you see more of them.

BTW congrats on the short commute mine is 90 minutes each way and I do it in a 6.0, Rob is what 2+ hours each way and he does it in a 6.0 as well. And we cruised in at midnight last night trailer loaded 85+mph the whole way 580 round trip and 8 hours of wheeling in yetsreday in a 6.0 with 172k on the clock.

If I'm empty and set the cruise hand calculated that's what I'm getting. Most of the time it's closer to the 21 side but there's been a tank here and there where it's been higher
You have to be calculating it wrong or you have the highest mileage in a 6.0 ever recorded if you arent fogging it with propane.

save yourself and get a 7.3, 6.4, cummins 24v with a 12v water pump or a 04-06 cummins 24v

HAHAHAHAH
Seriously?
you'd rate a 6.4 ahead of a ...well anything?
lol

yeah the pot needed stirring so I answered the bell

So by the ratio you posted of Fords sold to Dodge and Chevys sold and the ratio of Frods to Dodge and Chevys I broke down on the side of the road, it sounds like Ford needs to sell twice as many to get the same amount of running Dodge and Chevys. I mean you are a prime example.

You had to purchase 2 Fords to get 1 that was reliable. Shoulda just bought one Cummins and save the hassle.

I've been a ford man all my life but I drive a dodge because I don't let my pride get in the way of my wallet. Through probably 100 hours of research, mechanics opinions, and just observing what was on the road hotshotting and pulling commercial loads I came to the conclusion that dodge is the best. As long as it's a 5.9 six speed. It took about two years to find exactly what I wanted but that's exactly what I bought.

Bottom line Dodge/Cummins is the best period. :flipoff2:

Hey Ron, how many times have you called me from the road telling stories about how one of your 6.0s is half blown up, and wont do 55 with the trailer on, and the turbo's coming apart, and the wastegates stuck, and the egr cooler fell off back in georgia, but you and Rob are plugging along blowing smoke etc etc etc...?

Because I've lost track. :flipoff2:

uhhh you must have us confused.
never lost a trubo
never had an egr cooler issue

<shrug>

You dont really expect me to remember what was broken, do you? All I remember was something about Rob's truck being a POS and half-broken down...

well he DID go 45,000 miles between oil changes.

/QUOTE] yes ron I would rate a 6.4 ahead of anything. It's last years ford diesel truck but it still has a dual turbo pusing 42lbs of boost together (correct me if I'm wrong) and it out runs the new 6.7s but I would take a 6.4 over almost any diesel out there.

all im saying is this.
No one can say the 6.0 has issues and then praise the 6.4. When you have to spend a grand void the warranty and vilolate federal law to get to double digit fuel economy empty on a new truck...its got issues.

Can they be made good yep.

Im leaving this thread but my point remains, is the 6.0 th greatest engine of all time?
Nope.
But tey dont just magically fall apart every time you crank them up either.

You're absolutely right.

There's nothing magical about it.

Ford sells more Super Dutys (Duties?) because GM doesn't make a medium duty truck. 3500 is their biggest.

"Super Duty" includes up to the F-550's and such. GM doesn't make those. If they did, might be a different ball game, as GM kills Ford in the 1/2 ton market.

6.0's suck, plain and simple. The 7.3's sucked just as badly at first, but after about 3 years, they were solid. Nobody but us former Ford dealership people remember how bad they were.

But however bad the 7.3 was at first, the 6.0 made that look like child's play, and they NEVER got them right.

Now, can you do all the fixes and have one that is good? Yes. Can you get one that just doesn't break? Yes, but it's not the norm. That's just a fact, and all the anecdotal evidence of people with lots of miles on them doesn't change the fact that a LARGE percentage of them have problems.

How did I get drug into this pissing contest?

I got my 6.0 with about 100k on it. Checked the oil and trans fluid when I bought it, drover it 50k, changed the oil, drove about 48k, changed the oil, then about another 40k and changed it. I think I changed brakes in there somewhere and maybe once cleaned the air filter. Oh, I did check the trans fluid at the last oil change, looked brand new :flipoff2:

It has 243k on it now and i drive the shit out of it and it just keeps going. It does have a turbo burp now that has since gotten worse since I let Ron drive it, but all it needs is a little turbo cleaning and it'll be good. Considering I have done absolutely nothing (read: neglect) to it, I'd say its held up extremely well!!!

Oh, I did replace the tires once and did change the blower fan for the heat/AC. But, I'd drive it to Cali tomorrow towing a trailer if I needed to.

Even I can't kill the damn thing... :flipoff2:

For Sale, 04 F350 with 242k abused miles on it that even I can destroy! $32k :D
