who was a boy scout

Got my Eagle back in '01, and I still go to meetings as time permits to help out. I managed to resist the fumes long enough to earn 3 palms.

aged out at 18. had all my requirements for eagle, had my project planned and set in motion. my scoutmaster did not think i deserved eagle due to poor attendance. the fact of the matter was i was in the marching band all 4 years of high school, and we were forced to take that very seriously. i made it to scout meetings/outings when i could, but i suppose it wasn't good enough.

Yeah i here that I was in the marching band/ Jazz band and swimteam/ I made to eagle in may and turn 18 in june.

Girls did not help that either

i had a lot of pressure to make Eagle since my Grampa, Dad, all of my close friends did

Made it to Life and was about to be inducted into OA at 13 then I ended up moving to Florida and went to a couple meetings down there but absolutely hated it. I went to the national jamboree and was planning on going to the international but the move ruined that. Not getting my eagle is one of the few things I actually regret.

It's not about the badge man. I got to whatever is below eagle then timed out. Did manage to help my buddy pull off his before he timed out though. Pretty much did the same amount of work.

Boyscouts taught me to get off my ass, set goals, and to shut up and do it...well maybe not so much the Boyscout program but definitely my scout masters.

Plan on getting involved again one day...

Troop 63. Oldest running troop in the Blue Ridge Council.

I was a scout, not sure what rank I was....did it more for the camping trips and such, but they closed our troop when I was around 14....

It still includes two of my highlights though.
One was going to either camp hickory or camp spearhead right after Hugo, place was a mess...had a good friend fall and break his leg (compound fracture) and four others of us carried him like a mile back to camp area after splinting it up etc...at the time i seemed like good application of the first aid training...

Second was going to DC for the 75th anniversary...at that time we were so poor it seemed like a dream to be able to visit Washington. Looking back i am shocked at how they turned 20 12-13 year old loose in the city without chaperons...but it is still a trip I talk about to this day.

Ditto, one of the biggest regrets of my life is not doing my project to get my Eagle. Had a few stumbling bocks. I had a girlfriend, played baseball and left for college on my 18th birthday. Without a doubt some of the best days of my life were on camping trips. Learned some very valuable life lessons. My dad was a Scoutmaster for many years after I grew up. In those years he molded many a boy into a great young man. They came out in force and were a part of his funeral.
A few summers during college I worked at camp. Instructed archery one summer and was provo scoutmaster another.
Watched part of a show on The Outdoor Channel the other day about scouting. Appeared to be very well produced.

yea i was a boyscout till about 16 i used skills i learned there everyday.its really good for any kid if you ask me.hated getting badges got all the ones i needed to do all the cool stuff. everybody post up your troop numbers my was 10 and i went to scout camp at durant where did everybody else go

I made it to Eagle in 1981. I was also in the OA and an adult leader for a while.

I owe my appreciation of the outdoors tomy great scouting experiences. My son just joined cub scouts so I am looking forward to helping him and his buddies have a great experience.

I was in scouts. Finished my Eagle in 1998. Was also a Vigil brother in the Order of the Arrow (Skyuka Lodge). I learned a lot during my time in scouts. If I ever have kids (boys) I will encourage them to do the same.

Got my Eagle 6 months before 18th birthday. OA brotherhood. Great memories from those years, still stay in touch and go camping with friends from then time to time.

troop 605 we also went to durant

Made it to 1'st Class before I turned 16 and then started working full time to buy a car and never made the time to finish. I couldn't have saved enough money for the National Jamboree anyways.
My Grand Dad was known in my small home town (Fall Branch, Tn) for being the local Scoutmaster back in the 50's and 60's. He took the boys from East Tennessee (approx. 400 miles) to camp out on Okracoke Island (sp?) every year. Every funeral I ever go to in Tn. I hear stories on how great of a master my Grand Dad was.

Made eagle when I was 16 or 17, can't remember.

Loved every minute of it.

I went to the National Scout Jamboree in 1996 at Fort AP Hill, that was cool.

I wish I had time to be active now, but if I have a boy I will definately get back into it.

Eagle and Order of Arrow (OoA is forced labor to clean the camps and haze the newbies), also helped out a troop for a few years.

Our scouts are up at Raven Knob this week. I'm going up tomorrow night for family night and see if anybody I know is still up there on staff.

Durant is nice (anybody here seen the new Grand Lodge just completed??), but at RK, it's cool enough to sleep at night.

I was in the cub scouts and boy scouts, Troop 507 in Anson County. Earned Eagle Scout in 1973, I was 13 but had to wait untill I was 14 to receive the award. Also two palms, silver and gold, with 50 odd merit badges. Member of the Order of the Arrow and also Assistant Scoutmaster. We camped at Camp John J. Barnhart every year where a lot of the merit badges were earned. The Boy Scouts were a lot of fun in the 60's and 70's.
