It's been a while since I lived out there and there was a killer joint in Rocky Mount but I know there's others.
Even saw Man V. Food hit up a joint at NC State but didn't catch the name of the place.

Ain't nothing like whole hog BBQ!!

So watcha think?

the place he went to near NCSU was The Pit.

imho, the best is Parkers in Wilson right on 301. their cornsticks and hushpuppies are the best anywhere. ;) blkvoodoo will get that one if no one else does

No bias in this statement at all...... probably has something to do with the grease they are fried in....

i really took NC BBQ for granted til i had to stay over night in memphis. passed a BBQ joint and got a craving. My tongue didnt recognize anything about that crap, lol.

x2 for Clyde Cooper's and you can't beat the fresh pig skins. ;)

Lexington Barbecue in Lexington. Locals know it as the "Monk".
Best I've ever had, hands down
The best BBQ in the montains is at Woodlands BBQ in Blowing rock. Very famous place and very good!!

ummm, sorry you two,he was asking about Eastern NC.That hickory smoked bacon tasting stuff ya'll got up there just ain't the same:rolleyes:.

now back to the program
Wilbure's is good but he is a card carrying Demoncrate.
When Scott's was open regular hours and Martell was still alive, man it was the bomb.Their sauce is a staple around here.

if you thank thats good then you would die if you went to one of the real bbq joints around here

and as far as eastern style i thought parkers was alright but i just dont like my bbq with that much vinegar it made me squent everytime i took a bite it was so sour

I had a horrifying experience at Wilburs that will prevent me personally from ever eating there again, but I refuse to spoil it for those that enjoy eating there, aside from that the BBQ is damn good. Skylight Inn in Ayden is good, Kings in Kinston (the hwy 70 location is where it's all cooked) is damn tough to beat, and Parkers in Wilson or Greenville are good, but Ken's Grill in LaGrange is where it's at. Only catch is there is only BBQ on Wed, and Sat, and when it's out it's out. 11am is the best time to show up, fresh skins and BBQ still being chopped, often by 1:30-2:00 the pickins get slim (even though they cook 6-8 large hogs) By all means try it out if you're in the area. Every other Sat you'll find me up there for lunch.

I have always heard good things about Kens grill , but everytime i drive past its either closed or no serving bbq

Bill's in Wilson for me.

Buffet with all the fixin's and at the very end there lay a whole hog and you just pull off what you want!!

That's the only downside to Ken's you've just about got to be a local to remember the wierd hours and the two day a week bbq. Any Wed and Sat there should be a few hogs chopped up though. Makes it tough for anyone traveling toward the coast for a weekend to hit town with the right timing.

Hannah's in Claremont is pretty decent, but my preference is Hickory Log in Forest City, on and let's not forget about Bridge's BBQ in Shelby

What he said^^

Bills is about the only buffet I know of that lets you get bbq and everything else and if it wasn't enough, at the end of the line you can pull it right off the hog. Kinda hard to beat for a buffet joint when eating in.

Then again, family style at Parker's isn't bad either. Either way, For good BBQ - Wilson is where it's at. I kinda take it for granted but when family comes down, it's a must go have at some point and time.
