Will you buy a Government Motor Corp. (GMC) vehicle?

Had ford across the back It was a ford. Dont care if it was made by mazda I know this. Just like Chevy s-10's are isuzu and Dakota's are mitsubishi.:shaking:

I own 4 chrysler products (3 Dodges and a Jeep) so it wasn't really an issue for me. I know the government is 10% owner of chrysler so it is really throwing a Monkey wrench in my plan to by a new a Challenger this fall. I really don't want to support any company that is even partially owned by a government.

So as far as if I was ever a GM fan would I still by GM I would say hell no.

Did you know they still made duesenbergs until 2000!
and studebaker and GM fought it out over design rights to the H3.
you dont have to buy big three to buy american.
Also, if it bothers you that some car companies are going out of business, click this link.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_defunct_United_States_automobile_manufacturers
this is a list of all the car manufacturers that have gone out of business in the united states.
This happens every time there is a new industry created. It usually boils down to 3 major players who survive.

The way i see it all 3 make shit vehicles these days gov bailout or not Never liked ford. the ps engine was ok until the new 6.6l engine. Its junk from what Ive been told compaired to the 7.3. Dodge has the cummins great engine but there auto trans are shit. chevy well we all remember 6.2 and 6.5 garbage but have heard the 6.5 can be a good engine if a lot of stuff is added to it and have'nt heard many bad things out of the new duramax as long as you get the allison trans.
I have a 95 saturn and Ive beat the hell out off this car and it keeps goin. My first truck was a 198somethig ford couier. Great little truck. I have a 96 tahoe no major prob. My girlfriend taurus is sitting in the driveway with a shit trans. My other vehicle is my 82 yota trail rig I can go get in it pump the gas twice and touch the starter and it fires right up.
It sucks about the buyout but Ill never own a new vehicle anyways Obama will make sure of that with the finacial rape of America. Rant off
And the new Duramax is an Isuzu engine.

I worked on my grandma's 1992 Oldsmobile 88 Royale today. Sure its 17 y/o, but it only has 115k miles and its had problems about every 5k miles since it hit 50k. Today was the ignition module. Great, its on top of the engine, easy to get to, right....?????

Well, its held on by 5.5mm bolts. 6 of them, 3 of which you can't get anything but a socket on. Of course a 5.5mm socket can't be that hard to find, right? Well, Lowes, PepBoys, and AdvanceAuto don't have it, and the Northern Tool in Gastonia closed a couple months ago...
Fortunately an E8 external torx fits it. But the bolt that holds the wiring plug to the same bracket is a 1/4". Six 5.5mm bolts and a 1/4" bolt on the same bracket? No wonder they can't make any money, they are too busy changing tooling.

I have 4 or 5 of them that came in an old tool box Unbreakable gave me......still haven't used them for anything.

No way would I ever buy a vehicle made by a government and union owned company. It is guaranteed to cost more and be less reliable than any other car made out there.

Just look at what the government forced GM to do before taking over. They forced GM to shut down the most innovative division not making truck. Saturn. Why Saturn? The UAW hated that it had a separate contract that tied part of the pay to performance. Union told Obama that Saturn had to go. There is no other explanation for GM shutting down its only division that showed up on the JD Power list between Lexus and Infinity.

The new Obama Motors will fail because Obama will not allow them to make cars that Americans want to buy.

America is going to fail as a whole......this place is going to shit. The Gov will just keep printing money till it's absolutly worthless. Then even Walmart will fail:flipoff2:

I'm with this guy. ^^^

Our government seems to think money is free. :poop:

GM was the largest employer in the country....Now it's Wal-Mart. I suppose when all the car dealers go out of business then we will have to buy cars Kias from Wal-Mart.

We got one hell of a deal on an 09 suburban LTZ....Got it for the same price we got the 07 tahoe and kept the same payment....Not a bad deal saving about 15,000.00

That just goes to show how much they mark them up.

The thread is dancing on the edge of politics / just thought I would throw that out there, already had one person thinking this should be a garage topic.

Gonna leave it for now because there was not any 100% political comments, but...

As for the general topic... Only 2 new vehicles I have bought to date were a VW Beetle convertible for my wife and Scion xB for myself.

I could see me buying a suburban someday especially if they ever stuff the Duramax / Allison combo in there. Senior partner here drives a Denali XL and it is a sweet ride.

(Also like the Hummer H2s...)

Shedding 75% of their debt goes a long way towards profit and then the fact that the gov't WILL be able to start selling off the GM shares, thus "getting" out of ownership...also not a bad idea assuming all goes well.

Sam

That also must include the assumption that the long range idea is not to own an entity that produces what the gov says it must or be ran the way it decrees.:shaking:

I have never bought a new vehicle, and I never will. I just think it is a bad financial move.

I have a 98 Tahoe that I would say has been below average on reliability. I bought it with 66k miles, and now it has 130k on it and so far I have had to replace the following:

Transmission
water pump
alternator
intake manifold gaskets
distributor drive gear
Rear driveshaft lower u-joint

My fiancee drives a Hyundai Santa Fe with 103k miles on it. She has had to replace nothing since she bought it new other than tires and brakes of course. It goes 7,500 miles between oil changes without needing any added, and is still full on the dipstick when I go to change it.

My 01 Dodge Ram with Cummins has 201k miles on it. The only item I have replaced is the fuel lift pump.

I might buy another GM product one day, but it will be used. My next vehicle purchase will be another used but newer Dodge Ram with Cummins engine probably in 2-4 years.

thats bad when a thread about what vehicle brand to buy needs to go in the garage because of political overtones.

Time for me to go back to Fords.

I bought a Chevy a couple years back and it's been a good truck, but for trucks....I've always preferred Fords and I guess I'll lean back that way again.

(Here we go!) I love my 08 Dmax c/c dually. 30k, no problems. As soon as the 2010s come out, I'll buy one. Dmax/Ltz/Blah. Flame on haters. Paul......

Please explain......

Contrary to what they want you to believe the government has no intention of being "hands off" with GM, and it's going to end badly for everyone who needs parts for a GM product. You don't have to believe me now; it'll be obvious to you in a few years.

I highly doubt any of the what is being said will happen but hey, who knows.....Either way Im sure when they put the duramax in a suburban we will buy one of those as well.....

I have no problem buying from GM in the future, my truck currently has almost 187k miles with only transmission and rear end replacement. Rear end was due to a harsh shifting ammco transmission which got replaced with a jasper unit. Dad has a 92 chevy with 270k miles and it's just now needing a trans, engine has never been gone into and still has good oil pressure and doesn't burn oil. He also has a 05 Duramax with over 130k, 30k with a 80hp tune and no issues at all.
