It's not so much "chipped in", the problem is, "How do we get this information out to the masses"?
:(

well..for one you are doing and excellant job of getting the info to the NC off road community and the effort is MUCH APPRECIATED!

buying an Ad in Peterson's would be good way.

What improvements to the OHV satifised the FS back in 2006?

Also, the OHV was in existence before the USFS gained ownership of it. I wonder if there is any "grandfather" clauses that would exempt the trail system from USFS jurusdiction and get marisue out of the picture, or take away some of her leverage. with the trail system being in use since the 1900's, is there any way to get historic status for it.

Even if we dont win, lol, can we atleast have a plaque erected.

Reason being that I asked was because of this page...

You can see one of the tags I thought of getting here as well, which made me want to get an idea of what caliber of group I might be supporting in the process.

showing up to a "ride" with one of those tags would be, well, umm, disasterous

Why can't we get our own tags like TU has? Seems fair that we could.

Hahahaha

because in order to get a tag made, you have to have a state legislator who supports your group or cause. If you can find one let us know.

Actually, its easier than I had thought.

Draw up a design for a "group" to be supported and submit it to a local State Legislator for approval. This can be for any county in NC. Once approved by them, there must be a minimum of 300 orders for the plate before its released to the DMV to be issued

It could be "Rescue Tellico" or NC 4WD Association, SFWDA, etc. whatever we come up with to receive funds from the plates that go towards our efforts to conserve 4wd trails, etc.

well, pm Mbalbritton get a design going. lets find someone to submit this thing too.

already sent 2 letters to my local legislators :D

Once they are on board, we'd have to find an organization that would benefit. Remember, it needs to be a long term organization. A regional or national organization that would be usable by other states would be the best.

I'll see how the support goes from my legislator goes. If these don't work, there are a couple of other districts with house and senators that can be contacted for support.

*see above 50 posts.
I see, but will "Rescue Tellico" be good in 10 or 20 years if it remains closed ?
I would think that SFWDA would be good or even UFWDA, BRC, Tread Lightly, etc.
After thinking about it, Tread Lightly or BRC would be best as it combines all OHV enthusiasts but doesn't specifically target Tellico or NC...

Is this discussion getting off topic? Should we start a new thread?

Start a new thread about the setting up the tags for a way to fund. That could be a way to see what interest is out there for the tags. I know our group would be in for it.

I really hope this isn't going on a Jeep or 4wd.

There are individuals who trout fish and have 4x4 vehicles, believe it or not. Maybe not the goofy, European sports car, french men who are too classy for anything but fly fishing, but there are some people out there, believe it or not...

Sounds a little sensationalist to me, but that doesn't really objectively answer my question either.
I can gather you don't like the group, but, unfortunately, I wasn't conducting a poll.

I did like the group years ago and was an active member as was my father and some of his friends. However, all of us like to do things other than trout fish and it seems TUs agenda is solely focused on trout fishing and could care less about other recreations. Because I didn't want to continue to support my recreation's demise, I quite supporting them as so did my father and a few friends from me showing them what they are supporting (not supporting).

Its similar to the Sierra Club. It was orginally founded to promote trails and use and to get outdoors and to use the land. Now, the SC's agenda has completely changed and I'm sure most here don't need me to explain what that agenda is.

TU was OK years ago. Organizations evolve and change with time. UFWDA, SFWDA, etc. will, or may be now, change and evolve into what it was orginally founded to do. Its just how things work and who is elected into the leader offices and who becomes the members. IMO, TU has changed to a selfish 1 tracked organization that has zero cares as to who they affect so long as the members get to trout fish only.

Tellico OHV's economic impact on the surrounding counties.

up to 11% of the counties economy!

And according to this report, we OUTNUMBER the trout fishermen nearly 3 to 1...why the hell do we not have a bigger voice! Why isnt the majority of the population being appeased. this is public use land...the call ought to be made in favor of the majority.

That is one informative piece of information. Thanks Big Red

Not at all, I would just like factual information to deduce why I do not like the group, not dislike them because some guy with a 4x4 on a forum does.

I'm not even really playing devil's advocate much here, simply just asking for info on the group, besides what their sterling website says about themselves.

Excellent. Thanks for the breakdown. Like I said, I was just interested in reasoning because some may not like the group because they disagree with their POV...but I was hoping for more insight like this.

I appreciate it!

wow...downplay the loss of the east coasts premier OHV. Your gonna get along great with people around here.

His comment didn't ever directly reference losing Tellico, minus possible overtones.
Like I said, I'm outside looking in on the issue, a.k.a. not currently involved, and just need more intelligent (not condescending) reasoning than some as to why and how I disagree with an opposing group.

I'm not in the other team's dugout, don't worry.
