Whats the laws for window tint on a car? Got pulled today and apparently my tint is too dark, are they going to make me remove it off of all the windows or just the front? I have to take it to a law officer or the dmv to be inspected.. Thanks!
 
I had a Camry that I brought up from Florida that had 32%. I took it to my buddy's shop to get the inspection cause I knew that wouldn't pass. I was told the limit is 28%, but don't quote me, that's what I was told. As I recall, though, that's on the front windows, the backs can be darker I think, so get confirmation before trying to argue that with the dmv cause I said so. :D
 
35% is the legal limit in NC as far as I know. None of my cars have ever had that light of a tint on it and it has never been a problem so I am lucky. Sucks you got pulled for it, thats not going to be fun to strip and clean off.

its 32% +/- 3% so at the lowest 29% i know, i have to know :)

Windows may not be any darker than 35% visible light transmission. This standard is considered to be met if the window tint is no lower than 32% visible light transmission when measured by the station with a photometer.

The way I read it is 35% +/- 3% which is where the 32 came from. This is what ive been told numerous times for my crew cab (which has tint that reads 10 on the photometer.)

i had a truck with that problem once. I bought a pair of windows from a junk yard and switched them out to get the truck inspected, then slid the old windows back in. technically, you don't have to have side windows, but if you have them, they can't be tinted too dark.
 
What if we lower the windows and pull the fuse?
 
if you gotta take the tint off i think the easiest way is spray windex on the tint, then put a trash bag against the window so it sticks, that should take it right now, IIRC.

i was wonderin how long that would last. looked like you were running 5%....looks good but can be a bitch sometimes.
 
So, any recomendations of a good tint place in the triad?? Quality being very important, i don't want purple tint 5 years from now. BTW, it's for a vette, and that's a big curved rear window i don't want f@*ked up.

take it off the the rear window. Put down the other windows down and pull the fuses. Have it inspected like that and you only replace one window of tint. :huggy:

I had a roommate with extremely dark tint. he got popped for it once and that was it. Then again its usually other stuff that brings the tint up like speeding etc
 
All of my trucks have had 15% tint and never had a problem, It matches the back and back side windows on fords. Those windows where tinted to 18% factory.

Also it is not so dark that you can't see out at night, when you are trying to see your mirrors backing in the driveway.

I was a state insp. a few years ago and I always went with 32%.

It doesn't matter how dark the back windows are. And you can tint the windshield above the AS-1 line, I don't b/c it looks a little to gangster for me. lol
 
This issue has been addressed before. I write tint violations all the time. The law was designed to protect me (law enforcement) and you the citizen. If I cant see you and your hands then there IS A ISSUE! I write them at 28% or darker. This is how it is broken down. 35% tint + or - 3% for variance. 3% variance for my tint reader. So that makes 29% passes 28% I write you. By the way it is a class 2 misdemeanor and a ARRESTABLE offense. So bottom line keep it legal............
