WTF Digital conversion

People wouldd loe to see the momney our gov't is goign to spend to subsidize the TV industry now....guess what it is real damn expensive to run a transmitter and now they have to run both for 4 more months...the gov't is not only requiring Analog to stay up four more months, they are also not allowing anyone to take their digis off line...all this amounts to massive un necessary power consumption in the name of federally mandated PSAs

Actually, no.

The bill doesn't prevent stations from shutting off their analog transmitters on the 17th. And trust me, they will. It costs tens of thousands of dollars a month in electricity alone to keep a 80kw transmitter operational.

All the bill does (aside from reworking the handout/rebate cards) is prevent the Feds from handing the bandwidth over. See also: Gerry Salemme, Clearwire, etc.

Ahh, this explains it...

"The Senate acted responsibly to give the Obama administration time to attempt to bring order to a mismanaged process," the West Virginia Democrat said in a statement.

It's got nothing to do with technical issues and everything to do with taking credit for fixing a trumped up crisis. The people who are either too lazy or dumb to get their shit together before the switch will still be affected, so this delay fixes nothing.

Shawn,
I am aware of the bill, I can also tell you stations are being told if you turn off the anny you can forget fed funding (which is significant but requires mandated PSA broadcasting) for 09...

I currently have projects on going at 4 stations who are having to upgrade their back up power systems due to the conversion and now they will haave to run both xmitters...it is directly impacting me because we cant rmeove the outdated gensets which in 2 cases we had resold...

What network affiliates do you know receive federal funding?

What do you know that don't?
FCC anyone?

There are two kinds of funding....one of direct handouts and one of passive fiens for marginal offenses...

Shawn,
Im not gonna argue with you, I spent 4 hours today with the Regional Vice President of an affiliate to NBC....I'm sure he doesnt know what he is talking about.

In the past year a major sector of my business has been tv stations upgradng their back up power demands, I only know what they tell me, butt I cant imaginee small markt affiliates are dieing to spend 1MM for shits and giggles

I Saw a commercial last night from the local Fox station saying they were stopping the analog broadcast on the 17th. Doesn't seem to have changed their mind yet.

oh and SkyhiK5, were you drunk last night? a few of your posts were AFU with typos :D your posts are usually pretty clean.
