this has been coming for many years.
Waiting 4 more months will make NO difference, it's like a f-ing Baind-aid, gotta just rip it off be doen with it and move on!

EDITED - woops sorry wife had just asked about the XJ and I got confused what I had on my clipoard

Just a little "self-pimpin'".....

When was the last time you saw a TV in a store that didn't have a Cable jack on the back?

Is TV an absolute necessity of day to day life?

On the other hand, is 4 more months of analog broadcast really going to effect me? no. however it does mean that I have to hear about the switch for another 4 months

It has nothing to do with television. The guy that advised the Obama administration on this (and pushed for the extension) is an exec at Clearwire. Clearwire is in a time-to-market race with Verizon for next-gen wireless data services. Verizon's system is dependent on the 700 MHz spectrum they purchased from the FCC, which is currently occupied by VHF OTA television.

By delaying the switch, they keep the VHF stations on the air, keep Verizon from being able to test and rollout their new system, giving Clearwire a head start.

so besides the antenna TV's not working anymore without a conversion box...

what exactly does this do for the people who havent had antennas for years anyways?

If you have cable, it doesn't mean anything.

It ONLY affects people who get their TV over the air, AND who do not have a digital receiver already.
that is it.
If it comes through cable, satalite, or messenger pigeon - it will be converted at the the source already.

So why do it? The digital receiver is free already is it not? I suppose its just to clear up some wavelength?

The digital receiver is not "free", you can get a $40 off coupon on the purchase of a digital receiver.

I'm in the 1%. We don't do too much TV, usually watch the news, I'll turn it to RTN sometimes 'cause they show old show and not the new crap programs. Some PBS if its fishing, music, or Woodwright's Shop.

I put up antenna about 1.5 years ago and dropped cable. Haven't missed it a bit. I still have the analog stations in the tuner, but never watch them, always do digital (just about all stations are broadcasting both now).

And, this is one of the excuses for teh delay - gov't supposedly ran out of the $40 vouchers, some > million people on a wait list to get one, so they can "convert".

But what's funny is that I seriously doubt even 1 million people total actually need one - I'd bet 75% or more of people who got the voucher and bought an appliance with it did so only out of principle, e.g. "My tax $$ is providing this and it's owed to me so I'll get one too" even though they don't need it b/c they get the signal via one of the routes mentioned above.

But you could also think of it this way - if you have an analog TV and DON'T get a converter, then you are forever DEPENDENT on a service provider for your signal... unless you get a new TV of course.

and I'm willing to bet that 99% of us on there have cable or satellite, so why do we even really care???

I have Satellite, but where we are, the signal from our local stations is still analog, converted to digital, then compressed and sent out.

One station started providing a digital feed to dish, and the quality improvement is QUITE noticeable. So the sooner they're all forced to start broadcasting digitally, the better.

Im one of the few without cable. Havent had it for about 3 years. We watch what we can with the antennae. We were given a converter...it didnt really help that much in the beginning. Now we have RTN...we love The A-Team, Knight Rider, Magnum PI....all the good shows...
