WTF Wilmington PD

I don't like wearing my seatbelt either. BUT

A drug head overdoses, commits a crime, drives a car and hurts someone..... we have to support his veggie ass too.

That is why they have laws. BECAUSE ALOT OF PEOPLE ARE STUPID AND THEIR ACTIONS AFFECT OTHERS.
 
If you see a golf cart off to the side of #2 Tee At Echo Farms

Slow down that is also one of WPD many places to radar from. The cop is dressed like a golfer but no clubs on the cart, 3 UNmarked cops waiting down the road just a radio call away
 
This department sounds awesome.

Go search Speed Trap on Wikipedia, theres a bunch of interesting statistics on all sorts of crazy stuff police do (I read about a small town making 400k+ on speeding tickets ALONE! However, most of that went back into the budget to fund the police :lol: )
 
there's no reason they should hide. let us know you're there so we won't speed. why hide? in some countries, the cops roll with the lights on the whole time you can see them coming.

thats the point, to catch you so you have no way out so they get all the cash.

You know your going through a trap when the speed limit of a street randomly drops for no apparent reason. Watch out then.

They do that shit in Puerto Rico and it'll scare the hell out of an American if the Polica comes flyin up behind you on the highway. How are you supposed to tell if they're trying to pull you over or just get by?
 
I also think that wilmington has the lifted trucks due to the beaches and marshes that sometimes need to be patrolled.

why? most jurisdictions don't need such things. hell, even the sherriff's office up in corolla who is responsible for what is probably the worst beach patrol in the state as far as off roading goes only needs/uses stock cherokees.

valid point. that doesn't mean we should just accept the government imposing on our lives because other idiots can't act right though. change the other laws that allow them to mooch off of society.

you also have to consider that stupid people are going to do stupid things no matter what. someone riding a bike without health insurance probably isn't going to be the kind of person that cares about obeying a helmet or seatbelt law.

the drug argument isn't comparable at all. use of cocaine, heroin, etc. all put other people in harms way. not wearing a seatbelt or helmet doesn't.

Funny you should mention this...something like this happened to me a while back (year or so)

I was coming home from an ex girlfriends house, about 2 months after I got my first ticket. I had no idea what the speed limit was, so I was sticking around 45-50. I saw a car in my rear view WAAAAY back down the road and didnt think much of it. As he got closer (still...5-600 feet off) he lit up the blues. I knew there was a neighborhood coming up, and figured if I could duck into it, pull into a driveway and turn the car off, hed never know since he was so far back.

Then I realized this was a STUPID idea, so I slowed down to get ready to pull over. This cop didnt stop at all, he blazed by me going what I guess was 80-100, and I practically had to throw my car into a ditch to avoid being hit by him...
 
it's all about funds for the dept. if they aren't undercover, and they are in plain view, not many will speed. if not many are speeding it means not many tickets, which means not much income, not many court dates, not many court fees, not as many jobs needed in the courthouse, police dept etc. plus the state will probably cut their budgets if they don't see a need (ie giving out lots of tickets). does it make our streets safer? no. does it bring in more money to the police and associated departments? you bet. not to mention the poor insurance companies and lawyers would start to hurt if the streets actually got safer and people weren't getting tickets :rolleyes:
 
here in beaufort co. they have traffic court a couple times a month every time ive been there there have been at least 600 cases on the docket, average 50 percent plead and pay 110 bucks court cost and 30 dollar fine you do the math.

i definitely agree with everything you said, that it's all a handful of systems scratching eachother's backs to make one big system. however, traffic stops and general police presence can improve safety even if that's not the core motivation behind it.

i hate getting tickets just as much as anyone else, but i can't say i've ever not deserved one for whatever i was doing at the time. i think alot of people lose sight of that and try to put the blame off on police, etc.

the guy who drove that was joel. he is one of my friends dad. he doesnt drive it anymore cus he got a new position and they threw him back into a crown vic. whatever it is he moved up in the trooper division
 
ya dont forget about the light blue nissian fronteer in wilmington, saw him throw some bluelights on some leaving class downtown a few months ago.

also in raleigh (dont know if there still doing this but i know it was going on last fall) is a "yellow jacket" it occurs mostly on the belt line where there will be a yellow work truck or van and on the side of it will be a cop on a sports bike and as soon as you speed by the truck the cop on the bike gets you.

You can argue the point all you want, but that still does not change what the current laws are, and until those laws are changed, then we must either abide by them or pay the price for not abiding by them, whether we think the seat belt law is cool or not;)
 
Its not just uncool, it borders on unconstitutional in my opinion.

Howevrer, we as a society have become so damn panty waisted we need to be protected from our own damn selves.


Now I wear my seatbelt (most of the time) but I am also a responsible human being. If I chose not to wear my seat belt and did not have insurance and was injured AND could not afford medical treatment, I would be perfectly ok with them letting my fat ass die on the side of the road.

However most would whine and cry about the horror. Then again I am definitely a little on the extreem as far as personal responsibility goes. I say kill wellfare and if folks refuse to save for their late life care, have a few acres set aside for old folk homeless farms. Or their community, famil, or church could support them. Protecting folks from theirselves SHOULD NOT BE A GOVERNMENT FUNCTION>
 
Saw a Chevy 1500 down in Atlanta that was a Sheriffs vehicle. had sherriffs bading all over the thing. then on the tailgate was a decal that cracked me up:

"Compliments of your local Drug Dealer"

I thought that was awesome!

Just north of Atlanta in a small town saw a cop driving a Volvo. Sticker on the door read: "Compliments of your local DUI driver" The seize your vehicle and use it after X number of violations.
 
sorry for resurrecting the dead, but someone asked for a pic so here's a crappy cellphone pic of the black charger in Wilmington-he followed me coming down Market St until I noticed the lights on the passenger side visor and I slowed just a bit to get a pic-only thing you can see from the back that gives him away is the lights above the license plate...couldn't get a better pic because of the phone and I was trying to be sly.
