Yeti wins against Rtic

Just checked out the sale...

$142 for the 45

That's still too much for a cooler!

It is.....and it will buy A LOT of ice. IF there's ice to be had close enough to be convenient. I've camped in places where I'd pay $50 for another bag of ice. So it really depends on what it's worth at what particular time. Here? Today? where I've got ice cold beer in my work fridge waiting for noon? Nah...not worth it. But at Potts campground? on saturday after the big ride? After being there since thursday morning? Hugh DAMN Skippy!!

I know Shawn will spend a better part of an hour to prove me wrong, but I can't find a better deal on a cooler this big on Crackheadlist....and this is one of the BIG coolers!

That size in a Yeti has to be $600-$700 easily.

It's not the plastic that costs the money. COGS in any business model usually shouldn't exceed more than 20%ish of sales price (give or take 10% based on industry). 30% will go to overhead, keeping the lights on, tooling, machinery, R&D to make that ice last longer, fixed direct/indirect labor, variable direct/indirect labor, etc etc. 15% in SG&A for pencil pushers and to handle Yeti lawsuits. Then have to make the stakeholders happy too.

As for is it worth it...I dunno. I still use my 10 year old 5 day coleman. Layer the bottom in dry ice...layer the frozen foods, layer of frozen water bottles/jugs, cold stuff on top of that, couple bags of ice and a little more dry ice. Seal around the cooler top. That'll generally last me 5-7 days during the summer.

COGS in the Yeti space is sub 5%.
marketing costs and profit rule the balance sheet there.

I have read the entire thing here...... but.... where are the wheels ? ( on the back end) and where is the handle ?

ill stick with my Coleman (w/ wheels) , i keep waiting for it to break,........it never does....... :/

Cabelas has its own brand (knock off) that you can attach wheels to.

Longest trips I take maybe 3-4 days. The only thing that goes in my yeti (small 30) is meat to be grilled. Beer can be drank warm if need be. If you need to refrigerate more than that you probably qualify for an RV :flipoff2:

***Income Statement/P&L...but figured I'd be ballpark at 10%.

:D
I was just totally being a smart ass.
You can certainly pack and temper a "regular" cooler.
I admit Im a bit envious, a couple of our friend went down to the ballgame with us last Saturday and they had a small Yeti, maybe the 25qt, threw a few drinks in and grabbed a single 8lb bag of ice and tossed in. They left the cooler at our house Sunday and I moved it last night and it was still mostly ice. Not a few random cubes floating in cold water but 90% ice very little water. I looked at that and thought...damn that's pretty nice.

Then I thought...I like $150 more

I never would’ve considered buying a yeti, but just scored one. I vaguley remember tossing my business card in a raffle jar at a truck show 6 weeks ago. Today I get an IM at work saying there’s a yeti cooler for me in the mailroom. So alrighty then, there was a Tundra 45 with my name on it, I grabbed it and ran. No idea who it’s from, but will put it to great use next summer. We spent almost every weekend this year toting a Wally World cooler to 12 yr old girls softball tournaments.

I would never buy a YETI, I have 2 RTICs, one my wife got me the other a firesale for a fraction on the retail after the settlement. But I would always take a free one, awesome score, I need business cards if only to drop in random drawing boxes!

Dude score. Time to take your savings and buy a wagon for it. Not kidding.
