Interstate merging rant

Just a reminder that if you are getting ON the interstate, it is your responsibility to yield to the folks that are already on the interstate. If the timing does not work in your favor..hit YOUR damn brakes and wait until YOU can merge onto the highway. It is not my responsibility to slow down so you can merge.

Back story...I had a row cars to my left, and vehicles behind me..and a dumbass sumbitch in a volvo trying to merge onto I40 at the same time I rolled through. I couldnt go left, and slamming on the brakes didnt seem reasonable...so instead of slowing down..this dumbass sumbitch rode the emergency lane for 200 yards and then fell in behind me and started flashing headlights.. Apearently there was enough room to merge behind me..or the person behind me slowed down and let them in. IDK The cars to my left never sped up enough for me to move left and like I said, there were cars behind me, so I feel like I was not to blame.

Then, I got off at the next exit(home) and pulled in for gas..this dumbass sumbitch pulls in behind me and calls me an idiot driver and asked if I was trying to kill him. I was starting to pump gas and said..''No man...I couldn't get over and you should have yielded'' Then he said ''You should'nt be on the road'' to which I replied '' Well ...I'm off the road now, why would you pull in here, if you were in such a hurry AND you were clearly in the wrong? A few cuss words later( from him).. I smiled and held up a lighter to the end of the pump handle(didnt flick it or anything) the dumbass sumbitch sped off and yelled '' That's threatening my life and I have your name'' ( which is all over my van..lol) I guess this guy had seen the scene in the movie 'Point Break' where Swayze burned the getaway car..hahaha

Oh well maybe I get a visit from po po idk..we'll see.

Stupid son of a bitch.

p.s. I would'nt have ever lit the hose..that would have scared the crap out of me.

Vent over! Happy Holidays, drive safely!

I can see you installing new floor coverings in the police chief's house at a very reasonable price soon.:D

Been there back in May. New tile in guest bath and carpet in a bonus room:D Also installed all the carpet in the Court House ,Mocksville Police station common areas , and the Coolamee police station.

Not saying they wont come and get me..but they do know me.:) This is a small county.

the lane onto the highway is called an acceleration lane, it is easier to merge going 60 than it is to merge going 40.

Yeah, but if traffic is all packed up on the interstate ,as in my case( I had no where to go to let him onto the interstate) the ''acceleration lane'' can stop for all I care.

Looking back now, maybe I shouldn't have pulled out my lighter:shaking: I guess I am sorry for that. This guy just boiled my blood, which never happens.

I always try to move over for people getting on the highway IF I CAN. If not it is their responsibility to merge safely when available. For work I drive a CCLB F350 pulling an enclosed trailer. I deal with idiots like this daily that think I should just slow down on the interstate for them, usually a minority wearing a flat bill and 26" rims thinking he owns the road. Next time put him in the guard rail!

Sounds like you got it covered.

haha that's funny.

Yeah, towing a trailer in traffic really brings the suck. It's not my fault you're too fawkin lazy to turn your neck and look at the right lane traffic before being at the end of the on-ramp.

Why do the peeps that hit the brake instead of the gas on onramps also seem to be unable to use their rearview/sideview mirrors? they almost always brake, look over their shoulder w a rubber neck, and proceed merge/pull infront of traffic going 60-70+ while doing 45mph w 1/2 a mile or more of merge lane left in front of them?......... Idiots

Point Break....lol....classic movie!! I am a FBI agent

OK back on track here. Totally agree with your rant. I do a lot of interstate driving myself and this happens to me all the time.

Makes me wonder if the fine folks at DMV teach the meaning of yielding right of way anymore?

Also happens at those damn shared exit/entrance ramps. Trying to get off the highway at 65 mph and several douchebags have the lane blocked up.

I just assumed the Law had changed, because weather I'm driving a Big Rig, or my Celica, Everybody, coming off a ramp, or pulling out, somewhere, TAKES THEIR, Right of way!:flipoff:
And the Dual entrance/exit ramps, aren't you suppose to stop your 60mph exit, to let the stopped entrance ramp, go?:fuck-you:
I used to blame drivers ed training, for Not teaching, but I now see too many elderly meatheads, that never had drivers ed class!:stupid:

How hard would it have been to easr up a little to let him merge in? You were getting off at the next exit anyway. With your name all over the side of your van doesn't seem very smart to have done anything you did. I don't have a dog in this fight, just saying.

I think you were having a bad day, looking for a reason to kick somebodys ass. Fawkin angry hobbits..:D

I agree with Dylan. The point of interstates is to keep traffic moving safely at higher speeds. The person merging has the responsibility to yield to to highway traffic not the other way around. The biggest danger on interstates is people that make erratic maneuvers going 75 mph (like hitting the brakes to let some uninformed driver into traffic). If the left lane is open, by all means, slide over and let them in, otherwise, maintain your speed and let merging traffic yield.

I may have grabbed the new pistol instead of the lighter...

I always try to move over but if I can't, to hell with 'em. If they are smart and give a signal and speed up a lil bit, I may let off the gas a lil and let em in. If not then they either brake or ride the rumble strips. It's their responsibility to yield or learn to get into traffic w/o screwing it up for everyone else... Traffic in Charlotte sucks for this very reason....

Your vehicle can slow down at a much faster rate than it can accelerate, therefore it makes more sense to be going faster than traffic, so that you can slow down to the speed of traffic if necessary to merge. I have gotten in the habit of going very slow at the beginning of the acceleration ramp if there is traffic in front of me, so that I can then accelerate and hit the interstate with speed instead of being stuck at the back of a bunch of brakers going 45mph in a 65 zone.
