anyone on here ever tried this? found an awesome deal on a truck this weekend that has a service body on it and thought that it would make an awesome wheeling/camping rig. any advice or experience appreciated

btw the truck is an old pike truck. 2005 f350 srw 6.0 psd with 6 speed trans 4x4, has 18k pto winch with a place to run an attachment off of it. trans needs some work and i can get it on the cheap

They are typically a little longer and narrower on the inside, but if it covers it, go for it! Also, the sides are taller, so the camper shell will stickup above the roofline and look goofy, but function over fashion, right?

yes the actual width on the inside of the bed is narrower the a regular truck bed, but this particular bed is the same height as a regular truck bed

might be hard to find one to work with 8' bed
It doesn't have to fill the whole bed lol. The last truck camper I had had a good 6-8 inches between the bed sides and the camper. All of the companies have different over all widths inside the bed. Measure what the max you can fit in and start looking. Having an inch or two on each side will make it easier to load

I've seen it done before, it was an old grandpa style camper. Can't give you details because it was so long ago but it looked pretty nice. Lots of extra storage

Here ya go....

Let me google that for you

I've seen it done too. They look like a knock off KUV service body

I feel like a tard because I thought you were talking about a camper shell, and now that I reread it, you're clearly talking about an actual truck camper. I think that's an awesome idea. Something about the utilitarian nature of service bodies really appeals to me. And trucks with them are usually a bit cheaper. And my wife would never agree to it, which makes me want one even more!
