Work Woes

You all could stand your ground and see how long it takes for your employer to take away your break(s) all together.
Just playing devil's advocate here, but maybe the employees should bring their lunch, snacks, etc and not buy garbage food at Sheetz.
If they NEED a midday coffee pick me up, get more sleep or find a different means of getting an energy shot.

I can see why what transpired would upset some people, but you gotta ask yourself if it is worth losing a job over?

I'm willing to bet there are people currently not employed that are ready to fill their places, than can bring their lunch and coffee.

Yeah...but see, then that's usually when unions start getting discussed as a good idea, and in today's world...they're not. And then the business owner suffers, and the business will be closed in the matter of years anyway.

Or just decide to do what your employer says and (as long as it isn't illegal or immoral) make the choice to abide by their rules or seek other employment.

Do as they ask, or find a new job! Very simple! Does it seem unfair? Yes but think about this....I own a company that's profit is based on production (I will assume this is that type of job..most are) you take a 30 min break and go Accross the street for a snack, you get held up by traffic, long line, cop stops you for J-walking, what ever, no you come back 10min late. You have now held up my production by 10 min and if 5 other people went with you and we're held up as well.....do you see my point??? Be happy you get a break! me and the other guys here that are road techs go some days with no break, no lunch, nothing!

I 100% agree, but it's not exactly like people with disregard for logical thought and zero foresight of potential ramifications is an uncommon thing these days.

I do see your point and overall agree, but have seen it go the other direction as well. Now you have unhappy employees, productivity goes down, those 5 people leave, halting a good chunk of production until you can find replacements and get them trained. But on the whole, people need their jobs and if they had better options they'd take them, and certainly don't want to go without a paycheck.

Sounds like time for The Old Italian Strike. Hungry and overtired workers equals decreased productivity, prolonged restroom visits and consecutive sick days taken.

Sounds like a good opportunity for a food truck to come by and make some money and some employees happy.
Inside a mall? lol

This reminds me how awesome my job is. I can pretty much come and go as I please, as long as my work is getting done. Just have to keep cranking out crazy science shit and have 80 hours of work on the clock every 2 weeks, 10x8s, 8x10s, 14x 5.7... whatever.

Only downside my way-up top boss is a black man who got his job my begging for change, and in January I get a new one who will be even more shady.

they did away with that, thank goodness. We have a place for them now so they don't look like a bunch of idiots standing at the street.

Lee County hospital went smoke free on the whole facility. Drive down Fields Drive in Sanford, right at the hospital/ER entrance from Fields folks stand around a low raised manhole cover for their smoke....you'll often see somebody in a doctors coat, nurses scrubs, and even a patient or two in a hospital gown, out there sucking down more cancer.

Never knew that about NC labor law, thought two fifteens and one half hour were mandatory for a 8 hr shift. Glad I work for me except I try to do 20 hr of work in a 10 hr day. Which means I usually pull 18 hr days. Talk about a crappy boss with unrealistic expectations. Break? No you got another job to get done, yesterday.

At least in the other state I was from, if you are not within 100ft of a cross walk you are not jay walking since there is not a designated pedestrian walkway. Add to that in most if not all states, pedestrians have unrestricted right of way, even on most roads, interstates excluded.

if i remember correct, it's only jay walking if you are impeding traffic.

I agree to a certain extent. We too, go without a lunch or a break if it is necessary. However, it's not that often. If someone punches out for lunch and wants to walk across the street to get lunch, I don't have a problem with it. That's the main issue I have, which I have said in an earlier post. They have a half hour to do as they please. If they are late, punish them for it. Simple as that.

Profit based on production, meh, i guess it could be if run correctly. It's a big hurry up and wait kind of deal. This truly centers around a couple groups of engineers that would come in at 8, then leave for a coffee break at 8:15 IMO. It's just like health insurance and 401k. They take it away and make it more expensive one little bit at a time. Don't get me wrong, I'm very appreciative to have a job and make a decent living. My group is a lot more flexible than most around here, so I have it pretty good.

It was like that where he's at as well before they made an area. In the cold, it was quite comical to see 40 people standing at the edge of the pavement in 10 degree weather inhaling death

Heck with that hospital it might be their last smoke

My dad was there about a year before he passed on. We were already working on a transfer, when one of the nurses came in and whispered to me "you need to get him out of this hospital....if you don't, he'll die here". Even the staff knows.

They do have a new administrator now, though. Maybe things will improve
