Technically no since I started by hitting powerline trails and ure once in my DD 03 f250. But after I destroyed the front 60 and had to buy a $1800 dynatrac freespin kit to replace all the broken junk, I bought my 78 f150 and the 250 went back to DD and tow rig duty til I traded it.

The 78 Ford in my avatar pic is the only rig I've had since I've been going to places like Harlan and the Flats. For the last two years I've not upgraded anything on it. I may try to pinch the nose and lower it some in a year or so, but I'd really like to buy or build a tube buggy.

Yes, kinda. First one was a 86 CJ7 that I had for about a year. Did a couple local mudholes and maybe 1 short trip to Uwharrie. But I only had my learners permit for most of that time. Only mods were lift shackles and 32" mud tars. Got my drivers license in spring of 2000, Then got my TJ on August 18, 2000. It was 6 months old, had 6k miles on it, and led me down this path.

Have you put the tub you got from me on that thing yet

The old tub is off. The roll cage is finished. The new tub is finished. Just need to find the motivation to put it together.

Nope....it was 13 yrs old when I got it. And back THEN 13 yrs was OLD.....it had 77k on it and looked like it came from the Korean war. I polished it and made it look nice but it was rough when I got it.

14 yr old with a 304V8, 3 speed, and 31's (I had been working at a retirement home in the kitchen since I was 13 so I paid for it myself) is NOT a safe combination. Especially when their mother didn't get home until after 5 and said 14yr old got out of school at 2 :huggy:

Lets just say I washed it off at 4:45 on MOST days :driver:

Wish I still had it...but at the same time I don't, because I would have it on tons, stretched, and back-halved by now....and this way it stays just like it was in my memory.

I started with a '92 Explorer and I wouldn't want it back. It was a great trail truck and plenty capable, but I got interested in doing comps and went too far with it down a path it didn't belong. Then I bought the Samurai, competed with it for a year, then decided I needed a trail rig too. Bought an XJ and kept it about 2 years until I decided I had to have a Wrangler. Then sold the Samurai and focused on the LJ.

If you don't count the 2wd cars I "wheeled" offroad, then yes I do still have my first 4x4.
In 1994, I found my '77 CJ-7 Renegade in the Autotrader, print version (WTF is the internet?). Of course my dumb arse got it stuck muddin' hours after purchasing it.
I had it for about a month before someone made a left turn in front of me and totaled it. Bought it back and used insurance money to have someone fix it. Here it is back in the day...

and here it is after its last useful run, UREcross 2008

After that, I planned on fixing the frame cracks, rusted tub, and rats nest electronics, but ECORS popped up and diverted time/funds from the CJ rebuild. Now 7 years later, it is still sitting in my driveway, in pretty sad shape.

So how many other people stopped wheeling their trusty ol rig regularly after UREcross? For some unknown reason, that was a turning point for me. I mean, I've been multiple times since, but after that day, everything was different.

When I was in tech school (95-97) my dad and I would buy 4x4 trucks needing repairs. He'd finance them, I'd fix them and use the $$$ to buy newer and nicer ones.
The original flip was a 77 Scout on sketchy 32s. That was my OG rig albeit for just a very short time until we sold it.

In 2000 a buddy of mine needed some cash so I bought his 87 YJ for $3k. 4.2, auto, Skyjacker 4" and 33" BFG AT. I added 4.56 gears and learned to "weld" on the spiders. I wheeled it like that until I rolled on Slickrock in 2002.
Then came the typical 44/60/SOA phase, the 360 V8 swap phase and finally the "I'm so unhappy in my marriage I'll cut my perfectly functioning rig and half so I'm forced to spend a ton of time in the shop away from her phase".

I sold it in 2006 when I was going through a pretty bad post-divorce financial crunch. The dude wheeled it a few times and then parted it out and built a buggy.

For me it was callalante. I kept going bigger and bigger to keep up there then it was gone and I wish it was still on 36 iroks.

I keep seeing this. That's why I want to "stay small" so I don't get to the point where I wish I hadn't stepped up so high

Yep. When I was on rubi 44s with 36 iroks it was great. I was just 22 and thought if you didn't beat the shit out of your rig you weren't cool. @jeepyj1129 can tell you some stories about me doing dumb shit in it. And in general back then I guess. But we're about to be back in action. Great thread

@RJSCTJ to funny I remember riding in it down celanese rd with a broken track bar on 33 tsl's and @CasterTroy i've been down that road had a juggy on tons and 42's now I back to a TJ on 36's

I've heard it for 16+ years from several people. Difference is, I'm old enough NOW to listen to what wiser folks than me have to say :D

What the big deal was for me was not having a road worthy jeep that I could hop in and drive to work but it also needed to be able to drive to the trails wheel all day and get me back home
