Bumper Pull vs GN 5er Debate

The only major problem with a GN is the loss of bed space. When I go on trips I usually pack the bed of the truck with things I want to keep dry and close the tonneau cover and everything else goes on the open tag along trailer. If I had a GN I'd be SOL on keeping anything dry if it rained...

My Ranger also serves as a big ass Rocket Box. Lots of luggage fits inside it.
This is of course on the trip TO the trails as I have a nasty habit of busting glass and ripping doors off during wheeling trips...

But that's a valid point. With us not having 2 legged kids, we use the back seat area for luggage most of the time.

This is what tool boxes are for. Coolers, totes, and anything that doesn't mind getting wet goes in the bed of the truck. There's a toolbox in the bed of the truck and two waterproof ones (three total) on the trailer for anything else. Random extras can go in the cabs of the Jeeps. The neck takes up a 12" square in the middle of the bed.

Sway Master

Sway control for any trailer. Even your GN that “can’t/doesn’t/won’t” sway.

Sway Control

...and another. Now you have choices.

FWIW, both companies use only tag trailers in their promotional videos. If they were developing and marketing that towards GN or 5th wheel trailers, wouldn't they include examples of those types of trailers in their material?

Their installation manuals only use tag trailer examples.

To my knowledge, these weren’t available when I owned my GN (1999-2002). However, the technology and design is sound and if I still owned a GN, I’d give one a try to see if it helped in my situation.

@Ron Borrowing a trailer is one thing, but why would you ever let someone borrow your truck?!

If somebody needs to use my trailer bad enough, they'll have to borrow me, my truck, and my trailer. I know accidents happen, but I don't want to have to make any insurance claims or be mad at my friends :D

Sometimes it's just easier. Plus I know my truck is well equipped and capable of pulling my trailer, has the right size ball, right drop hitch for the trailer and receiver height, etc.

In my world, borrowing my truck is kind of like borrowing my wife.....it ain't gonna happen.

I plan to keep my wife my whole life. My son is not yet 3, and he has known 4 different trucks as "daddy's truck". I guess I view it differently :D

Hell Matt insisted I his truck when I borrowed a trailer once.

Never had a single squeak in that truck until you borrowed it :flipoff2:

Hauled a buddy's bumper pull yesterday. I had forgotten how much an empty bumper pull will jerk your truck around...

You got a 1500 get a bumper pull and air bags and go
