Detective called this morning, there are 5 atv’s missing in the area, they know who the thieves are, but they are waiting for something, not sure what

All the locals were right, so I guess it’s a waiting game now

Waiting for them to steal 10-15 more then get pulled with some drugs on them and then a slap on the wrist.
 
I was gonna come in here and stir some shit, but I guess that's already done. Clearly this won't be a popular opinion, but @Atla is making a lot of valid points, and everyone else seems to be opposing him for the sake of their own pride and/or because they aren't actually reading AND comprehending what he is saying. Whatever, it's the internet, carry on.

With that said, clearly the cops aren't gonna do anything, so you should go burn their house down.

First, sorry about you having the four-wheelers stolen from you. Sadly, the likelihood of getting it back anytime soon is slim. Here's why...
Statistically speaking, (bare in thought that I've been in and around some wild shit and even wilder people, and survived).
Certain things of value are easy to steal. Anything self propelling with a small engine are prime targets. Why would one steal them? Well, going back to the statistics, drugs. Habitual drug users find themselves so far into certain dependencies that holding a full time job is no longer an option, therefore, the key to continuing the cycle of use must come from theft. Regardless of what drug of choice they prefer, the thief will normally be a malnourished, sleep deprived schizophrenic fiend will little to no regard for life. They don't care about their future any further ahead than the time it takes to get from your backyard to the dopemans house.
Here lies the key:
Police know they steal. They know to look for trends. They know that a dope manufacturer will accept hot items of untold value to trade for an amount of drugs a fraction of what the item is worth. When a dope head shows up at the man's house with a $1500 dirt bike and only wants three grams of ice, done deal. The manufacturer/distributor/kingpin will stow it away and find a buyer later. The cops will not go after a dope head thief until the full circle is reveiled and they can take down a lab/trap-house. Unfortunately then, the plethora of stolen items remaining are simply discarded or sold at auctions cheap. The legwork it would take to run vin's and track rightful owner ship is reserved for running down the next bust.
Confrontation with a dope head is less than eventful and rarely violent. They run at the sight of racoon that looks even remotely suspicious digging around in a trashcan, much less a knowledged entrapper. Confrontation with a manufacturer is especially dangerous because of the potential police surveillance upon them and the fact that they are Keen on anyone robbing them.
Literally the only way to retrieve a stolen item is to show up and see it, scare the shit out of giving it back and making sure police have their one and only tie to their source of happiness, the dealer; their cellphone. Let the police handle it from there.
