Sorry to say this, and with a heavy heart....Joe D. passed last night or today

A lot of folks on here knew him, have raced him and wheeled with him...he was always "first on scene" when folks broke and needed help.

He was dealing with Cancer and was in great spirits at the last URE run, he had just bought a trailer to haul a few Isuzus out to Moab this spring

I dont know what to say other than give prayers to his mom and brother and ask God to give him a garage and a couple trucks to wrench on

I will try to update this...a lot of you have my number it's the same I used for all the Toy runs at Callalantee

JoeD. rest in peace my brother...

Mods if need be, move this where appropriate (and please fix pictures)

...I have none of him on computer, feel free to add pictures if you like!!!!!!!

Shit. :(

Shawn can you combine the 2 threads and nuke the 2nd one please...it is surreal, we have lost 2 this year that loved to wheel at URE in Isuzus..Mark a.k.a. hack and Joe Darlington a.k.a. JoeD :(

damn it damn it damn it!! Second fellow wheeler friend that has passed in the last 3 months.

God speed! I seen that Isuzu at callalantee before I believe, never got to meet the fellas tho! Prayers for friends and family!

I was lucky enough to hang out with you guys in mtn city once and I can not say enough good things how cool you all were. RIP Joe

What?

Its been far too long since we talked. Damn.
:(

My prayers to his family.
Great man. Great friend.

I'm so sad to hear this. I had been seeing updates on his health that he's posted on FB but then I had not been on there in several months. Even when he was having a bad day, Joe was thinking of others. He loved his animals and his friends. I will miss him greatly.

This is sad to hear, praying for his family and all the dogs. I loved racing Joe and the crew. As many said he was one of the first to lend a hand even if he needed to be working on his own rig. The last time we spoke was in the Outpost parking lot and @jeepin' jen and Joe must have talked about Danes for 45 min, he had a special place in his heart for all dogs. He will be missed.
Till we meet again, RIP Joe.

I'll never forget Joe Darlington, his dogs(Aussie and Hitch) or those Izuzus he used to work on and race in.

Always seemed like he was doing major repair work on those trucks, either on the trailer or the ground, before the races started. I always admired his relentless efforts and never give up attitude.

I once told him, as he was replacing a transmission or t-case or something major, just before a race ..somewhere, that he had more grit than I did. "I'd just load it on the trailer and fix it later, I said." His reply..."this is later( meaning it hadn't been touched since last the race) and "dont worry..when I pass your ass, itll be worth it"

Never failed, always about a week before the next ecors race Joe would call, or I'd call Joe..I spent hours on the phone with Joe talking about ecors racing, strategies, Rob and Ron ,past races, future races and other racers chances of winning etc...It was always a good conversation.

RIP Joe. the CEO of Darlington racing!

Very sad news. Enjoyed racing with him and admired his unwillingness to give up. I'm sure his battle with cancer was a hard fought one. Prayers for his family and all his loved ones.

Thanks Doug for posting over here.
For those that didn't get to meet Joe D, he really was the straight up kind of guy that you wanted to know.
He made everything around him that much cooler.
He was one of the nicest people I knew. All of us in the Zu community owe him a lot. Its unthinkable the amount of people that just knew Joe.... and he helped all of them!
This is all just too soon.

really sucks I was looking forward to seeing him in a few weeks. Goes to show, people say "do it now, before its too late" is so true.
You never know what is going to happen.
Joe seemed fine last time I saw him. Cancer was gone but he wasn't eating well and hadn't got his weight back.
I know you're up there in the big blue sky with Scott, Mark, Nick and your fur babies wheelin on God's trails right now.

Jimmy, I'll try to keep you posted. We have a few people near him keeping in touch with his friends and family.
This really stinks.

Words just can't express the loss many of us are feeling today. I hadn't seen Joe in some time but he was often in my thoughts and prayers as he battled cancer. As many have said, Joe would be the first to lend a hand even at his own expense to help out. Just over the weekend I was recounting a story of Joe, without a second thought, laying down in a creek at Callalantee in November to help fix a ripped brake line on my Jeep. He was one of a kind and will be sorely missed.

Not to simply echo everyone else, but Joe was a wonderful human being. Always kind, friendly and a true gentleman. When Lisa and I began racing in ECORS, he went out his way to include her and our malamute Denver. We would meet up to let the dogs get reacquainted and a race would break out.
The world needs more people like him.
Rest easy old buddy.

So sorry to hear this. While the world is at a loss for his passing, we were really improved by his presence among us.
Can't really add much more than has already been said, which has pretty much hit the spot.
Joe was THE example of a good community citizen, a helpful friend and the kind of person I use as a role model for what I'd love so much for my own kids to be.
His attitude is what made small community racing fun - rubbing fenders with you one minute but then there helping fix them afterwards. Seems everything Joe did was centered towards other people, yet always wit ha very positive attitude and a smile.
RIP good sir.
