Until we know the entire backstory, there will be speculation. Hopefully mall security camera footage will indicate what transpired leading up to the confrontation outside.
I'll play the "if it were me game"
Unless I saw someone being physically harmed or immediate/imminent harm, I would have gotten the attention of mall security or on site PD. If I saw someone being truly physically assaulted beyond reasonable "fighting", I would step in to separate.
However, this dude is screwed regardless. The court of public opinion will bury him in our liberal town here. If he is employed, he will likely face severe scrutiny from his employer. Imagine the threats called/emailed/texted to him AND his family as a result of his actions. That is what would make me more likely to mind my own business (unless the aforementioned circumstances were occuring) just I can continue to provide and protect my own family, first.
The local social media sites are blowing up over this. You can see the divide in what was once a very conservative area but is now quite liberal. Race and gender card being played by one side while the other side is reminding them (the other side) they beg for equality. Another example of fitting whatever narrative is desired.
The youths were out of line and should have been supervised. Period. The dude was also out of line. However, whoever laid hands on whom first commited the first assault and the second person will claim self defense and will likely win that battle.
I think I will just stay away from mass gatherings (aside from weddings in Evarts KY) in town and enjoy my quiet and peaceful life on the mountain.
