Tundra or F-150 thoughts?

Except for the transmission...?
Never had a transmission issue.
I thought they were going to pull the trans to fix and ac condensate drain line that was backing up .

A small operator change resolved the issue.

Fwiw my 2015 crewwmax 4wd limited premium was under 39k out the door new with a lifetime powertrain warranty.

@jeepyjman I know what the charts say. I was going to buy an f150... test drove it with my son in back seat and it didnt work. With the tundra seat all the way back i can barely reach the pedals and even there he cant get his knees into my seat back without slouching severely.
I've had this conversation with another f150 owner, who then rode in the back of my truck and said holy shit....

I'm a Ford guy. This is my first tundra.

Drove this thing in all kinda of weather and made a road trip to sc it in to get the stripping fixed. It rides great handles great besides in tight steep turns because of how light it is even with a bed full of equipment and an organizer. Only thing I hated about it was the auto shut off and the electric transmission acted weird on inclines. I don't know what all modification exactly the drivetrain had or what engine was in it. The 4wd worked amazing in the snow.

It also has a ton of leg room. I can just about lay down in the rear floor board with the front seats all the way back.

Are you sure you're not talking about the old one? The current gen added something like 6" to the back seat. It's gotta be four feet between the seat back and the front seat.

I've got a 2017 tundra double cab, I like the bed space more than the cab space. While all the new ferds and Chevy's may have all the techy bullshit and the tundra is a few years back, it's great, I don't need all that bullshit. Read around how much trouble the Ford's have with the techy shit. Like stated above, the resale on the Toyota is way above the big 3. I'll never waste my hard earned money on the other shit.

We drove a 2015...it was the aluminum body...not sure what gen that qualifies at.
Worth noting it did have more room than my 07 350 or our 2015 suburban in the back seat...

Ultimately I bought what I wanted ad fit my family. Everyone else should do the same, even if it's a different choice than I made.

F150 clearly out sells the Tundra. No doubt it is a good truck. Just relaying my personal experience.

If the current gen was 8ft wide between the doors, I bet you could lay a sheet of plywood flat on the back seats. It's that long.

With all that huge back seat, hiw big is the bed? Or it s the truck just ridiculously long?

Both. This one had a 6.5' bed instead of the 5' or 5.5' or whatever it was of the old body style. The whole truck was about a foot and a half longer overall.

And that's the kicker. It's awesome having all that space, and more of a real bed, but sucks when you can't fit into the garage anymore.

A good friend has a 15(?) crewmax Tundra. The rear seats slide and recline, I mean, come on man, it's like a hotel back there.
He's a Toy master mechanic and got the supercharger upgrade, TRD suspension beefed up, 80 gal or some crazy tank. He can cruise at 85 w/ a huge travel trailer w/o even noticing it. The thing is a beast. The cost of premium gas though.... yikes

I stopped and talked to robby yesterday. He showed me the Harley Davidson edition f-150 it’s 98,000

I'm in a bit of a similar boat as the OP. Currently using a 2001 Ram 2500 CTD as my tow rig even though I haven't towed anything other than landscaping supplies for almost 3 yrs now. My Ram sits for weeks at a time though since my DD is a Yota minivan. I've been considering selling both the van and my Ram and buying a Tundra to pull double duty as my DD/tow rig. I've got 143k miles on my 2010 van and have done nothing other than normal maintenance. I'm impressed with the Toyota quality and durability. My daily commute is 40 miles round trip which includes drop off and pick up of my son, and that shouldn't change for many years to come. It looks like I have averaged about 14,000 miles/yr on my van for the past 8 yrs.

Thank you to everyone that replied.

Well, I test drove a 2016 Tundra TRD, 2018 Silverado Z71, looked at a second Silverado, and test drove two F-150s.

Here is the winner. 2018 F-150. 5.0 V8, 10 speed tranny.

That’s about what I’ll be looking for when the time comes but with the 6’ bed. Nice truck!

Well I finally read this whole thread and planned to post my vote for the F150... looks like it’s not needed. But I talk a lot so I will anyway...

I drove a 17’ crew cab F150 with the 5.0 for a day in Vegas and across the desert last year and fell in love. The truck had great power, room for days, and rode great. Just an XLT, but I loved it. Leaving the Hoover Dam I accidentally got very sideways on the rev limiter, accidentally.

I thought long and hard about buying a 12’-14’ FX4 in Flame Blue with black leather and looked at them from Florida to Texas, but at the end of the day I need a 1 ton truck and I don’t like payments so I have a beater with half a million miles on it. If I was going to daily drive a pickup truck it would be an F150. It’s just that having kids, that back seat room is amazing. I have a friend that hates Fords, planned to buy a Silverado but then a Co-Worker bought a 15’ F150 Lariat with black leather and when he rode in the back seat he changed his tune and bought one himself just 6 months later!

Hope you enjoy your new truck, it’s beautiful. We need some interior pics!

For those of you that have made the switch, whats needed to tow say 8 to 10k pounds comfortably. Bags in the rear enough, do these trucks have enough grunt with the 8 or 10 spd trans. I'll be in the same boat in the next couple of years. Coming out of a 3rd gen dodge 2500 6spd is onna be hard, not sure if i want a diesel with a ton of miles or a newer gas 1500. Only experience towing with a 1500 is 90's model stuff.

Definitely get the 6.5ft bed. Comes with a 36 gallon tank!
