In compression more then tension.....weight being the same. The leverage is also the same. It looks ridiculous but I can't fathom it being any less or more dangerous if load limits fall within spec.
I've done it numerous times when I ran my cargo trailer sprung over to stop dragging it at race tracks....errrr fields for parking at random Harescrambles.

It's not just the hitch itself, even though that was what caught my eye, but also the crappy safety chains with a missing latch and the brake light wiring not hooked up. Also had eight lug axles with maybe 4 lug nuts holding the wheels on lmao. It was just screaming ghetto Fab from the start.

Oh, only the obvious caught my eye....been up way to long. Managed to drool on myself at a hospital waiting room.
Trailers could have a whole wtf thread their own....a young friend of mine is dealing with a new to him unit. "New bearing" were riding on a spindle so bad that magically disassemble by just undoing the castle nut.

Back story trolling with lead core lines pulls the standard boards under. A friend suggested this kind that they use for cat fishing to troll big cut bait or whole fish. I wasn’t willing to spend 90 bucks on a pair that “might “ work.
Scrap from work and some clips im 6 bucks in. Once I know they will work I’m going to make another set out of plexiglass
