Little grooving action,

I plan on grooving these new to me SX’s when I get done building. I’m doing the /\ \/pattern in the center lugs. Planned on using this guy. It’s probably going to take a long time and suck.

You'll want to say fuck these tires after 2/3 the way through the first one. Especially it being winter time and not brand new tires. Find a child or crackhead that needs $40 and tell them to get to work.

Yep what Braxton said, if you're not used to it you will hate it I've let mine out to so many people and they literally do about 10:20 pools and they're done cuz it it just sucks and it takes forever you'll lose motivation by the time you get halfway around one tire. a router works really good as long as you take your time and keep a steady hand or for what you're trying to do in the center a skill saw with two or three blades put together works really well for exactly what you're trying to do or I suppose you could buy one of them chainsaw grinder blades and give that a shot. I've done more grooving with that ideal heat knife for 90 bucks and probably most people and it takes stupid amount of patience and willpower to continue to do anything 35 37 inch or bigger.

It took me about an hour per tire on my 42's. I had them off of the vehicle and standing against my work bench. I could lean over and use my whole body to push the iron through the rubber. It definitely saved the arms and shoulders doing it that way.

Yep that's the only way lol otherwise you wear out quickly. This time I left em on the Jeep, raised suspension and axle for plenty of room to move. Someday I still want the Van Alstein

@marty79 if you run that rubber knife through the center blocks it will make a world of difference and help with what some of the early comments that were made earlier about side hills and such. View attachment 309880
Your right but I gotta get work done lol. 2days to work on my rig is enough hehe. Thanks dude

skill saw with stacked blades & depth set(your idea). You should be able to rock through all 4 inside of an hour I'd think. I would also stagger the vertical cut. Off set to the left on one center, to the right on the next, alternating. I'd think that'd be better than just one groove straight through the center. But take just a few extra minutes, but I think it'd be worth while to do so.

So much work going on, I wanted to test out my new tool/toy so stayed up all night grooving away.
Hate to say this but I'm not as impressed with this Van Alstine GV1000 as I've been dreaming of for 8years now...its still too dam slow for my needs wth..then it cut off on me 3 times had to let it cool down wth, people are saying they run it for hours and hours so I guess I got a dud, go figure lol.
Nonetheless I did manage to finish my set of 40s to see its potential and well, my hand is cramping like crazy but 6hrs later i got some kick a** tires! This is with normal tip too, not the good one for grooving lugs. They gonna have to warranty this unit asap.

Pro tip: spend $10 on a harbor freight tarp and when you are done you can drive away and cleanup in 10 seconds.

Pro tip: Do this in the back yard where you'e going to put the kids' swingset. Just drive away. Free rubber matting.

Ok who are all these people y'all are calling upon lol

All I know is daiuuuuum Goodyear used some stupid stuff rubber on these tires. Van Alstine gv1000 is awesome groover machine but it cant handle these darn things...
And holy freaking molly they are STUPID RIDICULOUS HEAVY wow, but now I have double beadlocks, and flat proof tires so I'm pretty happy. Can't wait to test em out

Me. I missed you at the get together. They think I need tread on my tires. I’m rocking drag slicks. Tread would be great, but wouldn’t help them hold air any better. I need tars.

so your running these tires i guess? have you wheeled em? what can I expect from these as far as rocks. I "unintentionally" grooved my 40s way too much, came out to be a bad ass mud/bogging/dirt woodsy tire but no so good on rocks so I bought these to have a better "all terrain type" tread for rocks knowing I can groove em for better grip and to soften them up a little, but to also get the full benefits of double beadlocks and the nifty flat proof tires. so far riding around the yard at 13psi, they ride way better than those 40s grooved all to heck so we'll see...

nah, I’m on bald irocs. I’ve never used those.

No one uses those cause they’re hard as crap and meant to be under a 10k lb H1, the compound is hard for the weight, they don’t flex on the rocks very well.

Not to say they won’t do okay, but there’re certainly far from ideal.
