I know a guy who is looking to buy a one owner motor home from some older folks. If it works out, I will get the long version from him to share. The small issue is the RV is in Colorado Springs, CO. the large issue is it's a cash transaction. It is going to be a fly out and hopefully drive it drive back adventure if it check out. The guy knows there is no limit to how much you can carry in the US, but is worried about the possibility of the TSA folks getting nosy and him being interrogated in some room like a thug. Anyone have any experiences? I told him I would check with the folks who know everything!

Could he possibly withdraw the cash in Colorado? Maybe talk to a branch of wherever he banks at out there so there is no issues with flying etc.

Last time I did this I just went and had a bank check made and flew with it. Mostly because that physically is a lot of cash to fly with and worry about.
This. Assuming the price is settled, arrange a bank check. This is how people normally handle it.
If the ywon't take a certified bank check.... run away.

Also, for the record unless this is a 6 figure RV... the stack of bills in 100s is disapointingly small.

Being able to take care of the title work at the bank is a plus as well.

Maybe he could do a mix of above: Take a bank check for the majority, and pickup cash locally or carry the amount that he feels he is going to negotiate.

Flying to Colorado one way with a lot of cash and then driving home is done all the time. Usually not for rvs, though.

Oh, they pick up an RV too. You gotta have a means of transport.

Depends...is the money he is using currently in a bank?
If not that changes things...

Tell him to just put in in an envelope, addressed to

(his name)
General Delivery
United States Postal Service
3655 E FOUNTAIN BLVD STE 106
Colorado Springs, CO 80910

That's a post office in Colorado Springs, CO. When he gets to CO, just show his ID and pick up the envelope.

Why not? We all trust the USPS with election ballots, don't we????
