100% agree. When I bought my house 1.5 years ago that entire bottom was covered in brush & briars (old pond bottom - you can see my bridge over the creek behind & to the right of the feeder) that I mulched with my mower. First year I was just getting grass to grow & found a natural spring and the persimmon tree. I added the feeder & mineral lick just to see wildlife and the 'what if' a decent buck or doe comes cruising through. This year I've thrown some oats, rye, turnips & radishes out just trying to keep deer out of the roads. That being said I've got a security camera overlooking all of it & if I'm at home and I get a notification of something worth putting on the wall and/or in the freezer I won't hesitate!
 
My old lab dug up this big mole out of the front yard today. JK

I’d say that wound is less than 12 hours old, a lot of people say that it’s from a combine. Coyotes or infection will kill it in less than a week

No major blood there it’s all muscle and skin.

I’ve killed a deer that had broad head lodged in its spine. Them sobs a lot tougher than people give them credit.

We hunt with some guys come down and hunt with us from Alaska every year and they swear they have a bigger will to live than anything else.

Pics suck because they're ~90 yards away, but saw a yearling buck mount a yearling doe from the deck tonight.

A friend of mine was butchering a nice 8 point he got years ago. He cut his finger while cutting a backstrap out and found a broadhead stuck it's spine
.There was no scar at all.The next year he killed another buck, in the same area that looked like it's brother. While butchering it he found it had been shot w birdshot at close range.It had pie plate sized wound under the hide behind one shoulder and the shot was in the muscle and under the hide. Again there was no scar or any sign of injury from the hide.He thinks that buck was shot by a rabbit hunter a few years before he killed it.

Oh, and it looks like next week the weather will cooperate moreso than this week. Today it was in the low 80s. Way too hot for pheasant hunting. The heat is tough on the dogs and wears us out.

That’s what he says. Said he’d much rather hunt with snow on the ground. He said the dogs still perform great in the snow if it isn’t too deep.
 
Interesting, dad shot that buck from a 18' ladder stand w a CVA muzzleloader w a Barnes T-EZ solid copper sabot.It was walking slightly towards him about 75 yrds when he shot it. He hit it low, behind the right shoulder. The exit was high and grazed the bottom of backstrap on left side inches from the ham.Where the deer was is probly 6' lower than the ground where the stand is so he was shooting down, but the bullet went up after it hit the deer.The deer kicked and dropped w the shot and didn't move.I wonder why the trajectory changed? I would think a rib would have no effect on it at that speed.

It’s not too bad out here. Lots of good pheasant and chuckar. Some quail but none tbat are part of the controlled hunt. Between the 4 of us we are knocking down between 30-40 birds a day.

I’ve been to multiple places in Kansas and Id much rather hunt with Kansas Creek Gamebirds (where I’m at now) than any of the other places. Good guides, good dogs, and the birds are very close to wild birds, moreso than any other place I’ve been.
