First off the Bad: Engine is Blown at 114K Miles

The Good:
2013 Ford F-150 XLT 3.5L Ecoboost
SuperCrew 4door with the 6.5FT Bed
6-Speed Auto
4x4

Options:
Max Tow Package (11,300lb) capacity
Back Up Camera
Chrome Package
Tow Mirrors
Electronic Differential
Brake Controller
Blue Tooth
Fog Lights

Ford won't help me out on the blown engine so decided to post it here first before I proceed into fixing it.
The engine developed a misfire while I was towing up a mountain and upon inspection one of the plugs was fouled. Unfortunately the strain and the fouled plug led to a misfire that led to this trucks early demise.

Truck is fixed, thanks to the NC4X4 community for coming together and helping me find the resources to get the truck repaired for a fair price.

Is that a common problem with the eco boost?

So you're saying the plug wasn't firing and the cylinder filled up with fuel and hydrolocked and broke the rod? I'm guessing stock plugs still at 114k?

Sent from my moto g fast using Tapatalk

Nope I put the plugs in less than 25k miles ago.

Sorry Had to. seems like there would be a class-action lawsuit

There was a class action suit but I don't think it went far. It's pretty well documented online and after 2 weeks of dealing with Ford and insurance they told me to go pound sand.

That's questionable. If you search for the specific thing online you'll find a lot. However, I never found anything but how reliable they are when I was doing research on the truck for a year prior to getting one. Its like a perfect storm kind of event from what I understand. Its just if it happens it can lead to detrimental failure.

It’s a turbo engine...that’s a pretty standard feature. When you force induction, don’t light the charge load it up and rev it up pressure gots to go somewhere...

Co-worker at work has the same model & year. Ford had installed a "Catch Can" on his, to solve the problem. He has to remember to drain it every so often. He says the Later years, Ford fixed the moisture problem. ???

Yep I had a catch can on it and had a weep hole drilled in the cooler. Its 20oz and every tank of gas its almost half full of water. My guess is that it happened beucase I didn't drain it after I topped off in VA. Usually it doesn't fill that fast but I guess the conditions were just right...

The new 2015 trucks and up have electric dampners in the grill that open and close to prevent the cooler from becoming to efficient

I've done some financial searching and know either way I'm going to part with the truck at loss.
I've updated the first post to reflect this

Seems to me you'd make out better (financially and time-wise) if you put an engine in it and then got rid of it. I'd imagine it'd be a lot harder trying to sell this truck w/ a bad engine.

From what I've gathered...$12k asking price (let's assume you get asking) vs. dump another $6k in it ($4k engine + $2k install) and if it's worth the $20k you say then you "make" $2k to put towards payoff.

Then cut your losses & go buy you a N/A 3/4 or 1 ton truck.

FIFY ;)

Don't get me wrong that's the route I'll go.

But in the meantime I figured doesn't hurt to post it for you guys to find me a deal on a motor and somebody that wants to make some cash installing it.

I’ve got a guy that could do the install. Very reasonable. Started his shop up at his farm. He does all the work on my truck. PM me and we can talk.

Scooter can do it over a weekend :huggy:

Yeah, I planned on reaching out to him once some of the dust settled.

Ford actually reached back out to me surprisingly to offer me a discount. They couldn't tell me what it would as it is a case by case basis and handled by another department apparently??

But they have approved my case to go to them.
