NC4X4 Hunting and Fishing

Ive never tried it - but a friend who does typical taxidermy as well as skull mounts swears by sitting them on ant hills. He has a couple huge ant hills on his property he says the ants do all the work.
I’ve heard of guys doing this too. Thankfully no fire ants at the house as of now.

Apparently there was a party in the backyard last night.....

Any of you guys have or tried one of the electric bikes for those deep hunts? Some have a decent payload and claim to be able to haul a deer out. Tossing the idea around for next season. I’m not talking about one of those $5k models. There’s some that are reasonable.

They are illegal on all gamelands and national forest behind closed gates.

But a buddy uses one in Colorado to go in 7 miles in and then starts walking elk hunting

I’m still digging, but I found this for South Carolina:

On WMA lands, Class 1 electric bicycles are no longer considered motorized vehicles and may be used on open roads and established roadways where traditional bicycles are allowed. This regulation does not apply to lands of the Francis Marion or Sumter National Forests in the WMA Program. For more information regarding e-bikes on National Forest lands, go to Francis Marion and Sumter National Forests - Home.

If they’re not allowed beyond certain areas like you said, it probably isn’t worth it.

I don't collect old shells/cartridge boxes, but I did see some sub $10 boxes of .22 '550' boxes in my garage a few days ago.

I didn't realize those were the good ole days when they were happening. In 2008 I got dumped day before Valentines Day, then became Saved on Valentines Day, then proceeded to blow the back out of my .22's almost daily for the entire year. Shot over 14,000 rounds, I tore off the tops of the boxes and kept them in my range bag to keep track. The memory still pops up on FB around this time every year when I counted them. (Same year I placed 2nd in NC IDPA for my class... lost 1st by something like half a second, which I completely blame on my stupid butt wearing a Blackhawk SERPA holster thinking I would play the game 'realistically' instead of 'trying to win'.)

Anyways.

I digress....

When is @JSJJ388 going to kill something?

Ouch. Dang man, way to just cut right to it lol. So far all I've killed is time. I've had one of the best seasons I can remember. Yet I haven't killed a thing. I made a bad shot on a doe early in bow season, had the jitters worse than I have in a long time. Had my peep sight randomly twist a couple weeks later at full draw on a doe a couple weeks later. Passed a small 3 pt opening day of rifle, he came within 4 yards and I decided to let him go. If I'd had my bow, would've been a different story. I've had several close encounters, two being a very nice 8 pt on public land with him at 10 yards. I swear I could have set off a bomb and he wouldn't have stopped chasing the doe he was on.

I've gotten to hunt a few pieces of public and hunted with a few buddies. Learned a lot trying to get it done with a bow. I've killed a ton with rifle, and wanted to give myself a challenge. I guess I succeeded. I made peace when I started with the possibility of eating tag soup lol.

Still after it though. I've done things the hard way, only carried a rifle 4 or 5 times. Planning to go several times next week as I have a few PTO days to burn. Odd feeling getting skunked but having a good time doing it lol.

For anybody that cares, I post a lit of hunts (and radio stuff) on tiktok and quite a bit on YouTube. K1JSJ OUTDOORS.

Maybe I need a book to proofread while I'm in the stand...

Shot fired @Atla

I can't say nothing, I haven't been hunting at all this year. I had high aspirations to break in my .45-70 on a bear this year, but I'm to out of shape to go trapsing about the woods after bear dogs.

:(

As for the book - I've been sick the past week so writing has been zero. I'm just now getting back in the saddle. I'll get something to you ASAP.
