The folding pocket knife thread got me thinking what is the go to multi-tool now. I know Gerber use to be the go to brand. It's Leatherman any good still?

All the ones I have are over 20 yrs old, so I don't know what kind of quality you'll get buying a new one now. This is what I carry now but I have a Leatherman, a Gerber, and a BMW one that came with a motorcycle I purchased new in 2005. The Leatherman was one that you whipped and it slid out the end. I pinched myself on that one numerous times so it is in the Jeep as a backup, just in case. The BMW one isn't as beefy and more of a novelty, so it's in the suburban. But the Gerber is on my side every single day.

I doing this wrong! I have a tool box in nearly everything I own that I drive. When not driving said vehicle i grab one and insert. Then daily I am beside, near or using another of several tool boxes.

None are capable of being held by Superman's Panty belt.

Old school Leatherman is my favorite. Not terribly flimsy and just the right amount of tools. The Wave is ok to. I just like the longer handled original in my hand. Leatherman is in my go bag, wave fishing gear. Next two is a Great neck and a no name somethin or other. Great neck is actually less flimsy then expected and slim enough to pocket carry all day. The no name is cheap as expected.

I drive a stocked kuv van or a service bed truck every day, 70% of what I look at can be dealt with with a leatherman wave. Maybe not as quickly as the correct tool but still fixes the issue.

I have a bluntnose I picked up off the side of the road. soaked in WD40 a week then oil for a month and it's fine.
I have various ones I've picked up over the years in my guitar cases.
The one I carry is a Cabelas 7 in 1 that rides in a pocket on my EDC belly band.

They all work fine, but then I'm a stickler for the right tool for the job thing ....

I've carried a multitool every day for years. I started out with the Gerber but hated that it took 2 hands to get the blade out. Picked up a Leatherman Charge and carried it for years. It finally started getting worn out so I got a Wave+. I have carried it every day for 2 years.

Gerber M 600 is about as perfect as a multi tool can get for me. It has all the basic tools you expect, opens single handed which is handy as heck, and they are about bomb proof. We sell Gerbers 10 to 1 over the Leathermans at our stores.
