Cut into this big ol mountain maple I’ve been ignoring for over a year.

Kinda cool that it’s nourishing enough to regenerate itself.

Purdy.

Then we rescued a hummingbird that had flown into the shop. It finally flew into something hard enough to stun itself so we could pick it up. Kids thought it was cool and so did I.

You cutting that trunk in thick slabs for bar tops/counter/mantel?

This guy sent me to the ER May 26

Since then, instead of coming out and leaving me be, it lodged somewhere and has made me miserable since then until this morning.

Hallelujah!

You have my sympathy brother.

But I gotta admit as I was slowly scrolling down I first just saw the penny and was like, wtf is this guy doing

I'm open to suggestions. I've had it listed on FB for a while hoping someone would want a particular cut, but not a single hit. I was out playing around with the mill yesterday and decided to go ahead and cut into it and see how it looks before the ants or termites beat me to it. You got something in mind?

I see a lot of wood slabs on FBMP. I posted that oak I cut and got only a few asking about it. Seem's like a saturated market to me. I'd be interested in seeing what people charge to kiln dry it. Been kicking around a solar kiln for a while now. But I'm broke as hell.

Few years ago I had a slab cut from a tree cut down in the yard. We don't have many places nearby that do customer kiln drying... I was shocked at the cost. Was going to end up costing me hundreds of dollars.
One of my neighbors was looking into setting up a dryer in this basement for the same reason. Don't know that he ever got around to it.

I dont really have any leads to sell something.... just saw that top cut and thought that the look and shape seemed great for a bar top. Also, maple is one of the more common woods for butcher block. Id love to have a slab for the future outdoor kitchen, but itd be rotten by the time I get around to it.

If you store it somewhere dry and keep the bugs out of it, it'll last for decades.

Throw some chorizo in there and it sounds perfect 👌

From what I remember the engine transmission comes out with one 14mm wrench. Or it's the engine separates.
Everyone keeps saying its only 4 bolts to remove it.
But being German - wouldn't it be a 13 or 17mm hex head? I'm gonna have to learn a whole new wrench system.

And FML !@#$. I just realized, I've spent 2 decades developing a really nice organization system for JIS bolts and learning their relationships, and a separate, much smaller Imperial set.
Now I'm gonna have to build up another set set for old European spec.

It's been a long time since I helped a friend with one. I could swear it was 14mm hex head bolt. Blew my mind. You can build those motors for some decent power too considering their size.

@RatLabGuy look up Appltree automotive in Michigan. That’ll get the big moving down the street at a proper pace.
