Random Thoughts.....

Half random thought, half country bumpkin rant.

I don't know how people live in or around big cities. People truly suck.

I had to travel to Huntersville yesterday for a job. Traffic was horrendous and everyone drove like an inconsiderate moron. I needed a mercury float switch, because I was dumb enough not to make sure I had one on my truck, and went searching at all the local plumbing supply houses, took 15 minutes to travel 2.5 miles. Ended up driving to Statesville to get one, 77 might be one of the worst highway designs. People flying down the express lane and then cutting into normal traffic lanes to exit the highway, slowing traffic to a stop at every exit.

77 is the worst road in NC. And they put a similar express lane on the southern part of 485 now. I want to know who approved that? Because noone voted FOR it. Yet, we've endured years of construction just to not have a lane for those who don't want to pay the toll company. F that.

I've worked in Charlotte on and off the last several years. I hate it.

I don't know that I'll call it project fatigue, because I'm working at least an hour every day (some days more productive than others...) on it, but I'm extremely ready to be done with the engine swap in my Jeep.

I don't feel that I've ever wasted time on the project, and I don't regret the "free time" I didn't spend working on it. I'm just very ready for it to be done.

I HATE traffic and crowds. I don't even like going into Kernersville, LOL. My tolerance for it has dropped with age too. Several years ago I started going to the Lowes and Wal-Mart in Mayodan because the drive there is much more relaxed and the stores are less crowded.

In many cities in Texas those special express/HOV lanes have flyover ramps for exits so as to not impede traffic. I had not experienced what is the modern I-77 north of Charlotte until earlier this year. That is definitely one of the worst road layouts I have ever seen or experienced.

To me, the idea of these express lanes is to make it possible for through-traffic to keep going through. Instead it seems like all these road designers now look at them as revenue generators. In my mind the express lane would start somewhere "busy" or at an interchange, drive by many, many miles of regular freeway with no way on or off until it gets to some other "busy" place or interchange. And large trucks would be allowed on them so as to get them off the regular lanes when many of them are simply trying to pass through an area.

Its all just a money racket.

The Monroe Expressway southeast of Charlotte skips the 150 redlights on US74 going through Monroe and all the other little towns, costs like $5, and allows you to run 75mph for like 20 miles to get clear of town. It's a dedicated highway built to solve a problem and works great. The rest of them around Charlotte are just revenue generators, and they primarily only generate revenue for the toll company.
