What makes people how they are.
This morning I broke the old car out for some therapy. A hundred or so spirited miles and it was time for fuel.
Pulled in a QT and fueled up. Couple of 50 something good ole boy types are staring hard and talking amongst themselves. As I come out of the store the following exchange occurs,
“ Man you know you just wasted your money, right?”
Hey, what ya mean?
See you put 93 octane in that old car, that’s just a waste of money. 87 is all you need and it don’t run any better on the expensive stuff.
Mind you this guy doesn’t ask any questions knows nothing about me, my car or the motor.
Internal debate ensues…do I correct or just head out. I ain’t got nothing to prove. So I say
Thanks, I’ll keep that in mind.
Figured that would end it right?
Nope he went back in for more.
High octane is only for new cars with computers makes no difference on a carbureted car.
Ok…now I’m already engaged so let’s have fun .
Well man, actually I’m running 13:1 compression and the timing was bumped up a tad on the dyno. I actually need to stay around 95-96 octane not to ping. I actually added octane booster before I fueled it. But I do appreciate the looking out.
Surely that ends it, right?
Nope he had another round.
Naw man compression ain’t got nothing to do with octane. Just try it next tank and you’ll see I’m right. Gua-roon-teee.
I was done.
Have a great day.
