Do not

Ive heard they work great in sand..thats all.

WhenI bought my '73 Bronco it had a set of 33" Turds on it. We took it to the NC Outer Banks and I found the side lugs throw sand like crazy which makes driving an open top vehicle miserable. When I hit the loose sand they immediately dug in.

Thornbirds are anly good for Mall Crawling.:shaking:

I loved my Thornbirds! THey were shitty in the sand as figured, but rode great on the road and in the mud/dirt.

The problem is that people use the wrong size rim with the tire, you CAN NOT use a wide rim with a thornbird!

Just ordered a fresh set of Thornbirds to bh1075's house. Direct signature required. Sucks to be you.

The only reason I figured they were bought was because of the huge lugs protruding from the sidewalls.
The owners were compensating for their own smaller protrusions.

There were only 117 sets of Thornturds ever made by Interco and they just keep getting passed around from idiot to idiot!

Seen a set at Tellico once, The guy had went crazy with the grooving tool. 1/4" here, 1/2" there, they did really good on everything, he was in my group.

And yeah they would do good on sand, then again, a slick tire works really good on sand,

My buddy had em for a couple weeks.. Quickly got rid of em.. also another tire to stay away from, MT Baja Claw!

Saw the same set... hacked to look like "knobbies" off a dirt bike, but did do well.

The sidewalls are like 12ply, so by the time you remove enough tread for the face to be compliant, you're back to dragslicks again!

I remember wheeling with a guy at Royal Blue that was running 35" Thornbirds and everyone kept telling him that he needed to air down more. Nobody noticed the fact that he had already pulled the valve cores out of the stems.

Never had any problems with mine. Granted they were nothing to write home about, but they went where I pointed them.

Had a set on my wifes old slightly lifted xj. They did great in the snow believe it ot not, but they rode like hell tracked everywhere you didnt want and were rediculously loud, but it was what she wanted

despite their looks they are not a mud tire, they are an all-terrian tire. another problem that i haven't heard anyone mention here in n.c. but when i lived in south texas where it was over 100 degres all summer, those side biter lugs fly off like popcorn. to me they are a waste of rubber.
