The re-birth of Callalantee

I myself really enjoy this place. Armor All trail is probably one of my favorite trails I have ever driven. That being said I will probably not go back until there is a price decrease in passengers or a decent yearly pass price established. All of you saying that those of us that are expressing our opinion about the price increase need to stop complaining or quit whining need to really mind their own business. What we are asking and saying about is to the owners and managers of the park not you. I have 2 kids and would love to take them wheeling with me but at 11 per person per day just to ride with you is getting a little crazy. It is approx. 45 minutes to 1 hr longer for me to go to Harlan KY from Asheville towing my rig. Those of you who honestly go to both and wheel can't say that they are very close in comparison wheeling wise. If you are going to do this kind of price change you better have awesome obstacles and plenty to do for more than a day. Why not offer up a group day to come and help as wheelers and have some assistance in marking trails, cleaning trails, and other things of the like that could be quickly accomplished with manpower. This is just my 2 cents and how I feel about it. I used to really push my friends to go there and try it out and tell them what a cool place it is and now its still a cool place to wheel by just a lil money hungry...... in a recession. Last thing is about having to pay to have some assistance to get off the trail from the owners. First of all if you are wheeling by yourself then don't do crazy stuff or your not very smart. Second I would hate to see someone on the side of the road broke down, out of gas, stuck with their heads in their hand and pull over to them and say I will be glad to help if you wanna come off of some of that money I know you have.... look at what car you drive I know you have plenty of money. What happened to helping people out of the goodness of your heart? I guess it's another way for people to make money off of Tellico closing. I miss Tellico.

ALL I HAVE TO SAY; THIS IS BULLSHIT!!!!!!

So when is the next trip? I need to get my mall crawler up there and check out these improvements. Last time i was there, felt like there really weren't that many trails but what there was, was awesome. Can't wait to go again and see if i can break my d30 wit those 37" creepies.

Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk

Yeah but you beat the shit outta that dana 30 with those 37" creepies!!!

LOL!! Hey Brad! A mall crawler aint a rig type. Its a personality type! You aint no mall crawler. I've seen you wheel!!:driver:

At least not those axles!! Im guessing the cross pin will be the fuse?!

Short ways off, but were planning our annual New Years Day Callalantee run. You should make that one...you got heat!!

The increase was needed to keep it open, I was upset at first mostly because I was spoiled with the old pricing. I will still go I'll just make a day trip of it now as apposed to a weekend.

Its just too nice of a place to give up, and I hope every one can find a way to continue to support it.

Probs to you Mike.... I'm glad you decided not to turn your back on the place but rather voice your opinion in person on your day trips...

fortunatly i live close enough to do day trips, its a beautiful place up there,, i want to go with snow on the ground

most people pay with a credit card and have months to pay it off :flipoff2:
it breaks down to the fact that everyone is dfifferent and manages their money different. Some people have better jobs than others.
What pisses me off are the ones that say you need to take up basket weaving or pottery. KMA, why can't I enjoy what I like to do to? I recently had a baby, my wife had to leave her job and we're now a single income home. I pay for everything and I still want to enjoy my hobby. It's almost like trail riding is the new country club. If I can't afford the lifestlye then I guess I'll go without. you do realize that "your" (used to be "our") hobby entails building a vehicle that literally rips up the earth with every tire spin? it must be nice way up there on your pedestal. what a bunch of assholes :shaking:

My wife just had 2 babies, she rarely works, I always work even though I only get paid for 40hrs and drive 200 miles a day for work. Thats not cheap or easy for anyone... I still want to enjoy my hobby, but its their land to do with what they want. I'll still go and enjoy it, I'll just plan differently or be on a stricter budget when I go. Instead of Heinekin to drink when I go, I'll drink PBR. That should make up for the difference.

You've got to plan for what you want with what you have to work with

We get the same responses with ECORS with the rules and entry fees. At first everyone bitched, now, most if not all agree that the entry fees are fair. There are other things that need updating but its Ron's and mine to do with what we want. If guys don't like the rules each year, then we'd rather have them not participate than to come and constantly bitch and moan about it. I'm sure Neeta would not mind you not being there if you aren't going to be a happy customer.

Really, how often do you guys (people bitchin about the costs) hit Mt. City? 2 times a year? If you hit it once a month I could see a significant difference in your out of pocket costs, but once or twice a year, then the increase is peanuts at best...

Hell, some of the trips guys go on are club rides where the club sometimes helps to pay for the lodging for the club ride. So then not all the expenses are right out of your pockets anyway. Whats a couple extra $ to fund a place that you enjoy riding at?

If $20 or $30 is a significant amount for you to not go wheeling somewhere, maybe you all should start looking into cheaper hobbies.

As soon as I hook up the trailer with the buggy, I might as well figure its at least $200 in fuel I'm going to spend. Whats 10% more to wheel somewhere I like. Maybe I'll just pick a weekend when the per-gallon cost of diesel is lower to off set the costs! Be creative in your planning and thinnking and you won't ever be out of that $

last time I went it was a wreck up there. poorly marked trails, horrible maintenance, erosion, etc. Now that Tellico is closed I was really hoping to be able to go there since they are essentially both the same distance for me (~2hrs) was afordable. Now they raise the rates and it's not so appealing anymore.

they cant maintain the place on pennies and since your not willing to pay anymore i guess u can deal with the unmarked trails and erosion

this is some of the best info on this thread... thanks rob

if u cant afford to wheel then find a cheaper hobby

lack of maintenance and trail erosion = shut down. then nobody rides smart guy and then you don't even have to worry about it.

unless you own property you are going to pay to play- period. let me put the wheeling hoby in prospective for you compared to off road motorcycles. Lets say gov't land first: the riding cost the same truck or car mute point. Private land, not much of that around anymore. Most all private land owners will not allow you to just show up and use it your free will. OK then private land opened to the public in the form of a buisness or organized races, such as haresrambles. Brushy MT. around 30 dollars a day with no half days anymore, private through the week members only. Around 500 dollars a yr. oh and no trucks or atv's with over 3/4 tread. TNT motorsports around the same with much smaller riding. A few motorcross tracks day riding (track day) minimum 30 dollars with one single boring course. NC Haresrambles 5 dollars a head to park racing or not ages don't matter. 35 dollar min race fee if your a member, which for a year is around 25 or 30 dollars. GNCC or most santioned enduros are way worse you buy entry fee, parking, and a AMA is membership required. So you could get a cheaper hoby, most new bikes are in the 4500 to 6500 range now but I guess that helps from being dollared to death to play on someone else's land. I raced for a few yrs and our 300 plus riders not including families were happy to get to pay and play in several locations accross the State. Maybe landowners respected the motorcyclist more or just maybe they felt they got a little more respect and something in return for putting up Their land for others to use

I know you weren't talking about me but I did take it to the mall last night with my wife.

If you guys are going new years day, count me in. I have been wanting to get back anyway and if they have been doing improvements, I definitely want to get up. Plus you guys are always fun to hang out with anyway and its cool to support the people who support us with the use of their land.

Hey "smart guy"...let me see...

lack of maintenance and trail erosion = nobody bitched and everybody rode cheap!

...or...

lack of maintenance and trail erosion = people bitch and they start fixing it up, and now you have to pay for those improvements.

Sounds like, you, like so many others like you, want it all and want someone else to pay for it, for you.

I may be havin' eye trouble, but, I dont see that happinin!

I think the fees thread speaks for itself. when I checked it last night it had 51 people saying the fees were too high and something needed to change. 7 of you think it's just fine and dandy. I'm sure everybody's weighed the pros and cons and they still think it's too high. I'm not the only one, so keep going on about it. I'm sure somebody might listen but it won't be me.

I think they are hight too, but its not my place to argue that. Its not my land nor never will be. If I open my own park some day, then the fees will be what makes sense for me to operate the business. ORV parks, theme parks, movie theaters, or any other business out there operates mostly the same. The fees are there to balance out their business model and to make the most profit. If 100 less people show up to ride but the revenue generated by the people that do come, then they are better off than where they were prior.

Whatever the fees are, I'll abide by them and go when I can afford to...

Even better you go out and buy some land and we can come and ride at your place for $ 3to5 a day. Then you pay the bills on the land and buy the equiptment to work the trails.
