I bought a diesel right about 2 months before fuel hit $5.00 a few years back. Actually glad I no longer own a diesel as a DD at the moment.

I am hearing $5.00 a gallon by end of March.

What I really want to know.. Why the fuck is it going up? Don't blame Libya either.. or the middle east political unrest bullcrap.. Where's Hyperlite?

time to brush off the grease tanks again...

A guy my father in law works with just filled up his Deuce.5 multifuel with some old hydraulic fluid. Running like a champ :driver:

Gas is going up again because the government needs more money to spend. Glad I bought me a honda civic couple years ago!!!!

3.79 In Swannanoa saw that & my jaw dropped. Even gas is ridiculous it's got me reconsidering getting a new truck. I might just be saving more & driving the Hyundai :gay: this summer 29 mpg 10 gallon tank FTW.

Thats just nuts, thank god my Yota gets insanly good gas mileage. If it get any worse might just start feedin her ethanol.

And you will see it start getting worse mileage with that ethanol unless you are running really high compression or boost that can take advantage of it.

I haven't gotten my first tank of gas through since the rebuild on my b2200. Hoping to see mid 20s when I fill it up this weekend.

I figured up that when I compare driving my 79 Bronco back and forth to Winston (50 miles each way) vs. driving the new mustang, I save so much coin in fuel, it's basically like I'm making a $100/month payment on the Mustang, and that number will get smaller as gas prices go up. And that doesn't even include cost to keep the Bronco roadworthy...and insurance was a wash. So it was damn near logical to buy a new car to save on gas in my case.

Yeah I knew that, but you can make it yourself. If gas prices get to bad I just wont drive. The Yota will stay home.

Um, you do realize that the gas tax is a flat cost per gallon, right? Dosn't matter what the per cost is, they don't get any more unless people consume more.

and remember, "the government" has to pay for gas too. higher gas prices mean having to make cuts elsewhere.

Anybody know if there is some minimum quantity of gas you can sell w/o being a "dealer"/reseller etc?
I've often wondered if during times like this, one could buy a few hundred gallons "early" in the spike, then resell it to neighbors etc for a reasonable rate and make a little $$.

$3.72 in Lincolnton today. Glad the weather is warming time for the "veggie blend"

Fed yes but doesnt NC tax automatically adjust based on price every six months

I paid $4.19/gallon in Needles, CA on Feb 12th. Locally, its 3.79 at the Wilco close to my shop.

Just paid $3.74 a gallon at NC160 and I485. Fortunately that was at 40mpg, so it's worth it in the long run.

If you're trying to sell a truck you better hurry up and do it. I remember the last time gas went over $4.00 two and a half years ago people panicked and you couldn't sell one unless you practically gave it away. I got my 4Runner then for about $1,000 less than it's worth as it sits right now. No plans to sell, but I've felt good driving around for the past couple of years knowing I could move it for a profit at any time.

I used to work in a service station. Mark up on fuel was aroun 5 or 6 % and yes you had to move a minimum amount to get the price break. Plus, regulations were fairly restrictive on storage. Probably not worth the effort.

Yep, when it was $5.00 a gallon I bought a 2 year old F350 diesel 4x4 quad cab with 24k on it for $17,000. If it goes crazy again I may buy another and hold it for 6 months and turn it for a nice profit.

Federal and state governments each place excise taxes on gasoline. There may also be some additional taxes, such as applicable state sales taxes, gross receipts taxes, oil inspection fees, underground storage tank fees and other miscellaneous environmental fees. Add that to the state excise taxes, and it can average 27.4 cents a gallon. So yes the government does make money on the price of gas.

NC state gas tax is currently 30.55 cents/gallon, and it is adjusted every 6 months. Add that to the federal tax, and it is 48.6 cents/gallon. No sales tax on gas in NC.

But again, like Ratlabguy said, it is a flat rate per gallon, not a percentage, therefore the Gov does not make any more money when the gas prices go up. If anything they make less because people will drive less and buy less fuel.
