$1500 to burn

Just don't worry about building the motor.....there are far more imporntant things than hp

You could get the truck done & ironed out suspension & drivetrain-wise.....then build a stout motor down the road. It would suck to have a hot motor sit around while the truck is finished.

Good luck either way!

yea wasnt really plannin to since all i was doin was heads and a cam really

this thread is actually kinda void now thou cause I just commited to buying a different truck thats already pretty much built to wheel a little bit ago, that way I can just drive it and not have to build my truck up so I'm probably gonna be selling the ford here shortly . . . .

Yea yea, me and my stupid jumping from project to project :shaking:

Jon from what I've read/heard from the ford dudes the aftermarket heads for the 400 actually perform worse than the aussie 302m heads do. .

first off, you better find a better ford forum before tossing money around. To my knowledge there is no such thing as a 302 'm'. What I think you are referring to is a 302c head. Aussies destroked a 351c to give the option of a smaller 302 ci, but a 302c head is rare as fawk in the states. Plus a 302c head will torque like an ass raped gorilla off idle but will quickly and I mean quickly fall on its face anything out of low band rpm. The biggest factor is you cant just bold these heads on, you would need deck machining to fit them and you would need to find a super low lift cam and machine the piston fly cuts to keep the valves from saying hello to the pistons.

if you were looking to cheaply increase compression ratio you could run a 2v 351c head with a 351w intake or run a 4v 351c head with a 351c intake. Only 351C & 351M parts are interchangable with a 400 engine.

how about a savings account? :flipoff2:
Thats what I was thinking or use it to pay for school.
At least if your going to blow it get something you will have around for a long time.....Dont think I would just waste it, as soon as you do the Z71 will crap out on you...

Yeah buy something that will stay around a while.

Get an 8-ball of blow and an escort for the weekend (hell maybe a whole week) Every 4 months or so when that rash pops up you will remember that $1500...

Jon - Maybe i was wrong about the letter that comes after the 302 but according to an article, and two ford forums, they are indeed direct bolt ons and they work fine with the stock pistons you just have to run high octane feul, and the cam that everyone was suggesting to use is a cam similar to an edlebrock performer but a little bit better. Oh weel no biggy now anyway since I'm getting something else.

yes patrick you win . . . . for now, bwahahahaha :driver:

Now I'm all for pointing out bad ideas that he comes up with.. but if he says he has $1500 to spend, let him spend it. For all you know he's putting $3k in the bank.

We're just here to tell him WHAT to spend it on...

What would I do w/o you :shaking: wel actually we all know, id have and xj with a welded rear and a whole complete extra axle in the back :driver:

I guess in retrospect I probably got lucky that I didnt use the whole $1500 at the hospital last night, for some reason my eyeball doesnt like hot metal sparks, especially when you leave it in for two days and it starts rusting in there. Stupid eye.

You'll only do THAT once...

Hope you're OK though, seriously. Lose that eyeball juice, and it ain't coming back.

Safety glasses are only good for a direct hit, we all know how things will bounce off one thing into another. Good set of goggles and a face shield. My best friend found out the hard way, twice while wearing goggles. Nothing like having a doc with a drill in hand.
