When it rains....

That's why I circle every body panel on the pre-rental inspection. That POS was like that when I picked it up.

Gotta say, though... I've been threatened with cleaning fees, but never been threatened with an insurance deductible.

I used to work for avis and trust me you do not want to buy a rental, they are beat to hell. I've seen cars come in with less than 1000 miles and already be pretty beat up int wise. I will say that we did take care of them but that was when our location had them. Some locations will rent out a car that is over the pm mileage which is usually at 5-7k.

But i'm glad your wife is ok, it's hard to prevent things that you have no control over.

Dang. That sux. the person who pulled out in front of her should have to get a rental for you regardless of whether you car is a rental or not.

yes - they do have to - but... it can take days for their insurance co. to finally accept liaility and make arrangements for your rental. In the meantime - how do you get around?

Back in '02 my XJ was totalled by a guy who had a stroke and blacked out while coming off the highway, T-boned it while it was parked. Dude totalled 4 cars lol.

The ins co took a freakin WEEK to finally accept that they had to be responsible... they were trying to establish whether he had a pre-existing condition that was uncared for, in which case his policy would be invalid and they'd be off the hook.

The point - while the point of insurance is to make this kind of thing move smoother, you can bet nobody is jumping out of their seat to write a check.

the deductible was for the wrecked rental car, not the one we got after the second accident.

It didn't really surprise me, and after talking to my insurance company today, given the fact the guy pulled out of HIS driveway into the path of oncoming traffic, we're clear. ( WHEW )

even better that HE was issued the ticket.

the deductible will be refunded when the dust starts settling.

I'll be glad when we get our own damn car and this shit storm settles , I don't like this game, I wanna go home.....

Whew, the dust is settling FINALLY !!

SO, the person who pulled out into the side of the rental, NEVER contacted their insurance company. A week later (Dec 6 ) and we've heard nothing.... so we called them. There was no claim or other info on file, though he was one of their insured......

So WE initiated the claim...... wait 4 days, no response, call back on Friday ( Dec 9 now ) they are pretty reluctant to talk to me as I wasn't in the accident,

NO, I wasn't in the accident but the car was rented in my name, and I am responsible for damage and what ever else happens until this shit storm is cleared up.

Anyway. Dude is contesting the accident....... Really ? ok, where can I send the pictures of the vehicles and accident scene ?

sent pix, They call wife Monday (Dec 12) and accept liability for the accident...... whew, 'bout time.
Where's my $250 ? Oh, you will be re-embursed soon as we verify that you were charged.....Huh ?

no response until last week ( Dec 20 ) when I called then and raised hell. Nobody can tell me why I haven't gotten my $$$ yet, but they will check into it......

Dec 23, get home from road trip, mail from Enterprise Rent-A-Car.... You owe us $9794.84 for wrecking our car.......

Oh Reeealy ?

scanned all pages and emailed them to the other parties insurance company.

home from church Dec 24, there is check for the deductible, ok, it's getting better now.

It's been a Merry Christmas, wife and daughter are health and safe, as am I. this is just the small stuff..... ( that I hope I don't have to deal with ever again )

Merry Christmas !

Been following this thread. Glad to hear you are starting to clear the shitstorm. I feel for you. My wife how shall i say - has some issues with driving (more like aiming in her case rather than driving). It's actually seldom her fault but almost always a situation where a good driver likely would have been able to avoid it. Very colorful discussions ensue when I make that suggestion too! We've never had the double header like you are experiencing but everytime I have her ride in the shop, I worry what the hell will I do if she piles up the 2nd one. Your a good example of stepping above it all and seeing the really important things. Have a good remaining Holiday Season!.

Yup

yup... The person at fault always wants to weasel out of these things. "Let's not call the cops. I'll take care of fixing your car. No big deal." That's what they say at the time but, odds are, they're not going to follow through.

So my advice is always have police come and file an accident report. Call your insurance company right away and point out that some bozo decided to run into you. Let your insurance company deal with their insurance company. Hmm Honestly it's been over 10 years since our last non animal related incident. Perhaps you do have to call the other person's insurance company, but I'd certainly start with your own. Tell them your side of the story and take it from there.

Merry Christmas!

Glad shes ok! ... Didnt you post a thread not too long ago where she worked alot of hours and was drowsy and ran off the road into a ditch? ....I think a tank would be your best option at this point. Some folks just arent good drivers and not cracking on your wife at all but women in general haha.. Take my sister for instance, she is a great navigator, hell, i can say she knows her way around better than me, but she is the worst driver ever! What she makes up for in one skill she lacks in another. Shes had 4 Ford Exploders, totalled one, one got stolen, blew up another, and wrecked the hell outta another one. She also managed to drive a conversion van onto one of those rails that keep you from running into the gas pumps.. Women have too many distractions behind the wheel!

Hopefully there will be no more mishaps for the Mrs!

Oh, lemme guess.. Was the person backing out of the driveway a woman too?

...man, im starting to sound like a wife beater!
