SHENANIGANS

Got everything back together this week. I had sent the orbital valve off to Radial Dynamics for a rebuild because it was leaking fluid out of the splined input shaft, up my steering shaft, and out into my lap on an incline. “Not ideal” as Cleetus would say. It’s back in, no leaks, and functional. The new Trail Rocker relay/fuse box is mounted to the passenger side dash and I got the doghouse notched to slide around the rubber grommet. So far, so good. Time will tell if my electrical gremlins are gone.

That hole could have been neater

I'm disappointed

 J/K Looks great!
Believe me, I measured 15 times before I got the guts to break out the hole saw.

I guess you could call me an overlander now that I’ve bought one of their products. Pretty snazzy little reel though. Seems to be really high quality. Nicely machined aluminum swivel, ABS plastic reel, aluminum hawse, and red anodized locking handle on the side you don’t see.

I'm not sure what I'm more jealous of... The system itself, or the fact you have the room in that well thought out, sorted rig, to have it 🤔

Turns out if you wanna be one of the SUPER cool kids, I needed to spend some more money. I’m back on the list up at CutlerFab and hopefully this all goes down late 2024. Rear steer in the works…

🤣J/K bro this will be freaking awesome 🤘🏿🤘🏿🤘🏿

Teaser shots for this week at CutlerFab. I’ll haul some scrap metal home with me along with everything I removed from the rear 14B. I’ll have Yukon 4340 D60 inners, OEM 14B shafts, 14B spindles, 14B hubs with rotors and disc brake mounts, D60 spool, and that empty housing up for sale soon.

Does he like that Ellis bandsaw? I keep debating getting one to replace my Jet, but the Jet works fine.

Curious we he thinks of them too. I've used them quite a bit.

I can tell you they are a lot better than a Jet. I've used a few over the years and they are damn good saws. Pricey too
Funny you say that. My Jet is a damn good saw, and a new Ellis is much cheaper than a new Jet of equal size. I just assumed the Ellis was like a Haas: covered in American flags but mostly made in China.

I’ll ask him tomorrow for an in depth review, but he’s said 100 times that he loves it. I don’t have anything to compare it to except my old Harbor Freight version. It’s a thousand times better than it.

Finicky (lots of extra set screws and adjustments), hard to line of sight the blade, not as rigid as you'd expect for the price, awkward blade changes, bed that can get cut up pretty easy by students, and slide clamp that does everything great but clamp unless the material is darn near perfectly aligned to begin with.
Other than that it's fancy bandsaw.

Haas machines are cheap because they use triple row ball linear bearings instead of matched sets of linear roller bearings for the ways
