02 Tacoma Build

Save the regear budget for the SAS.

Regeared stock stuff should be an easy sale on TW

No go bigger! Haha

My taco axle served me well on 39.5's even with a lockright

Heard that. I'll be done after I link the front of mine. If I ever decide to build something new it will be a sami buggy with my drivetrain

URD short shifter is here however Marlin is using the slowest postal service known to man and it's going to take a week and a half for my shifter bushings to get here. Hopefully they speed up some because I want this thing installed. Also tracked down a front diff to regear so I can cut down time while swapping gears.

URD short shifter kit and Marlin Crawler shifter bushings in. Wow what a difference. Still need to order my install kits, will prob do that Friday. Was hoping ECGS would have a 10% off sale for KOH.

Well had my buddy pick me a set of SpiderTrax spacers from a guy off the forum. Guess I can finally give the ones on my truck back to Dylan @DJ318 that he let me borrow.

Also just ordered both master install kits, solid pinion spacers f&r, along with the CV axle bushing from ECGS. Should be getting a set of OME Struts and 882 coils from a guy here shortly off TW. That and my elocker skid from FROR should be here this week. Lots of shit to do and hopefully all done by March to make the WindRock ride.

Looks like the gears are going to get installed next week or week after. I don't have the time nor the experience/confidence to do them in before Windrock and trust them.

Spent half my day yesterday cleaning the shop and pulling the diffs out of the truck. The front was the definition of pain in the ass. Ended up pulling the pinion flange to get it past the bellhousing. Rear did was easy with the exception of the driver side brake line decided it wanted to twist with the fitting. Will more than likely replace that section.

Can also see my "custom" brake line plugs. Should bake bleeding the brakes a lot easier rather than leaving it open all week.

Today was cleaning the front diff as I didn't get it may as clean as I thought at the car wash.

Along with that I changed the fuel filter, have had a new one for well over a year now. Was a bit over due considering all the crap that came out of it.

Also went ahead and pulled the rear shocks, gotta love the leaky bilsteins. Will either go with the jk shocks I have or something else new.

Both diffs, gears, and install kits loaded in the dd for the week lol. Guess a prius is useful for somethings.

Oh well I guess I never updated this after getting the diffs back in on Sunday. Went fairly smooth, had a couple buddy's come over and help. I remembered that Toyota put the fill plug in an awesome spot for the front diff, ended up using a couple feet of hose on the end of the bottle to fill it. Got the LROR elocker skid on as well. Also put some OME 882 coils and struts on and keep my top plate spacer. Hindsight I really didn't need the top plate spacer but oh well truck sits about level now. Here's nose to nose with Dylan's on Eibachs and Bilstien's.

Rides a bit nicer, got the truck aligned on Tuesday and it really didn't need to be touched much. Not really much adjustment with this much lift. So far I'm happy with the gears, hell of an improvement daily driving.

On a side note I ordered a new radio today because the sock one just died and a Bearcat 880 cb. Going to mount it below the new radio. Finally got tired of the little Cobra 19. Hopefully that install goes smooth tomorrow. Also going to look at a potential DD/tow rig tomorrow.

I still remember a very stock Tacoma with very bald Michelin street tires, and a young man who was very eager to learn, seems like yesterday.
I'm the same way with Dylan's truck. When I met him his was stock on 265s and drove like NASCAR, still does sorta lol.

Finally put my skids back on today. Also changed out the cb coax and tuned the cb radio with the help of my buddy Jason. I think the firestick is holding it back some. Will probably pick up a regular whip on the way out tomorrow. Had changed the belts and oil earlier this week. The old belts were on their last leg.

Had repainted the skids so they'd look a little better, kinda like polishing a turd really.

Headed out for Windrock in the am, beyond excited to wheel there.

First two are on Trail 16, ended up falling off and kissed a tree on drivers side. Lucky it didn't bust the ext cab window.

Love your taco man!!! What did you end up doing with the 33's and the old yota SR5 wheels?

I have no idea how i over looked this, I ended up selling the tires to a guy and the wheels and my old 32s to another guy.

Nothing new with the truck, trying to decide if I should SAS it or sell it and buy something to wheel that's more car seat friendly and wheelable.

With the value of that truck you could build a very stout XJ or ZJ. Is the taco your DD?
Yeah I was thinking about an XJ to build, it'd just be finding a buyer for a beat up Tacoma. It is my DD sorta, I just got a 99 F-250 as a tow rig/DD but the clutch slipped Wednesday on me so I've gone back to driving it at the moment.
