This thing popped up for sale a few weeks ago and I looked away as long as I could. Struck up a barter deal with @unbrokenchain and I think we both walked away pretty happy. I’ve been wanting something around the farm to bounce around between my house and the other family members that share the farm with me. The old man volunteered his truck for the road trip.

Parked in her new home. Recently finished up my barn and it seems to be a fitting parking spot.

First few dollars spent were on a lucky Craigslist find. Matching set of underbody tool boxes with the keys. I’m gonna cut the old flat bed off tomorrow and start stripping it down. Lots of scrap metal added over the years that needs to go. The basic flatbed seems solid and just needs a proper mount, fresh paint, new lumber, and probably some new LED lights all around. The new boxes will also make a solid mount for the fuel filler. I’ll post up when there’s more to see.

Got ol girl in the garage today and started getting rid of some of the ugly. Stripped off all the old rotted boards from the flatbed. Then I cut it loose and lifted it on up and off.

Probably gonna chop this ugly headache rack down to just an even 12” high rail across the front. Let’s be honest, this truck is gonna live the good life from now on. I won’t need the headache rack anyway. Next up was the hack job of a rear hitch. I was getting tetanus just looking at it. Before:

Might as well improve departure angle while I’m at it. I’ll cut the hitch down and weld it solid between the frame rails. After:

Everything from the cab back is gonna get the old booger welds removed, wire wheeled down, and a fresh coat of satin black. While the bed is off, now is the best time to redo the fire hazard of wiring and fuel lines. It all needs redoing.

So Cab removal and putting a 79 Ford Cab on there? :stirthepot::huggy:

 I keed I keed

I actually like those years dodge. I think the ONLY years of a dodge I can not taste vomit is the +/-75 thru +/-86

ALWAYS loved the Simon and Simon power wagon

Cab will likely never come off. I tell myself that I want her to keep all of her scars, but by the time the bed is rebuilt nice and shiny along with the lift, wheels & tires this fall, I’d be lying if I told you I hadn’t already been looking at new fenders online. In an effort to steer me back towards keeping it a farm truck, it’ll get some rough cut oak on the bed (soaked in 10W-30 and diesel) along with some hand painted door lettering. I’m working with the old man right now to come up with a good name for the tree farm.

While you are at it, might suggest converting the bed to a dump, unless you have one already on the farm. It is more work and money, but they come in handy for sure.

Yeah, we already have a 14’ Bri-Mar dump trailer. It’d probably just kill that tired old 318 if I added that kind of weight to it anyway.

If you need another 318, ive got one that has been sitting on a stand in the basement for way too long.

Won’t say I need, but I’ll definitely hear what ya got. Shoot me a PM with some details and I’ll run it past my Mopar guy.

Love it, like watching my little daughter grow up... naw not really but I'm glad you're getting right to it, I could see that truck itching to get that bed and hitch done right. Got a new favorite rifle too btw :sniper:

A dump bed is a heck of a lot lighter than a dump trailer ;)

Agreed, but we have other HD trucks for that job. This one will run to town, out through the pasture, and just generally look like a badass.

@BigSouth how about Naughty Pines Farm

Finally got a day to get back on the old farm truck. Trimmed back all the wiring to just the OEM harness. Cut down the cobbled mess of a hitch and welded it securely between the frame rails. Also got rid of the last few random brackets on the frame rails and shot some primer on it to keep it clean.

Also started reshaping the flat bed. Headache rack is cut down to 12” tall. Shortened the bed length by another 10” and gave it a dovetail. If I hadn’t run out of wire, I’d have it all welded up by now. Mock-up is all I got for now.

Picked these up today from @skyhighZJ …. should work good, last long time!

Solid day in the shop working on this flatbed. I need this thing off my lift so I can do some vehicle maintenance. All the welding is done. 2 coats of Rustoleum satin black. Holes drilled and 3/4” bullet LED clearance lights installed. Boxes are mounted with new Grade 8 bolts. Tail light brackets are there, but I still need to pick out my lights. I’m wanting the “all in one” ovals that have tail/stop/turn and reverse lights. I’ll let the paint cure a day or two and then it’s time to get her back on the farm truck.

Welded on and off my lift finally. Everything appears to be straight, but there’s no guarantee anything else on the truck is straight. With the tag on, took her out for a victory lap around the farm.

And just for giggles, threw on a beadlock I picked up from @skyhighZJ to get a teaser on how she’ll look. She looks like she’ll fill out quite nicely. I can’t wait to see this truck 4” higher with 35” TSL’s.

How long before it gets tons bolted under it? :D

Anybody placing bets?

I’ve got the buggy on tons. The line in the sand has already been drawn on this one. I’d love to get some lunchbox lockers for it, but that’s as far as I’ll take it. Keeping this one MOPAR just because.
