I took some pics of a Detroit diesel skid unit we have a work. It has a Eaton trans hooked to a pump. We use it to pump water from the river to a ash basin located on the property. Some of the old timers said its been here since the 70s..and it still works. A large diesel tanks feeds it.

Nice

Never seen a stock one with a turbo(I've only seen a handful). Can't tell from the pics but I assume it still has to have a blower to idle. No?

use to be a common engine in trucks.i had a 72 international with a 318 and a 77 kenworth with a 435.both are v8's. plenty of hp but not much in the torque department.use to be a guy in statesville that had a cab over peterbilt with a v12 and twin turbos and straight stacks, you could hear it comming from miles away.

I don't know about a blower. I didn't see one. But i like how the alt is on the back side of the motor. I guess it was designed that way to save space

they had roots type blowers (just like you see on hot rods) on the older ones and then added turbo chargers on top of the blowers. the blowers don't have anything to do with idling, only power.
