2017 superduty

How else do you think all these people have these big campers that are 110k plus.

the one me and my wife like has an msrp of 98k. Have found it on sale for mid to upper 60's. Just haven't decided if we want to spend that yet.

Except 9 out of 10 won't hold value in 5 years, or hold up in general much longer.

That target demographic isn't generally educated on the structural or mechanical life expectancy of what they're purchasing. MOST, are at or near retirement age, and believe they will spend their "golden years" traveling to the destinations they've dreamt of their entire lives.

Unfortunately, it's been MY experience (working at CCRV in colfax thru HS and preparring new RV's for their delivery, and then watching numerous friends and relatives reach this "golden age") that when MOST finally DO retire....they're spending more time at the DR than they are anywhere else, so they become more home-bound than they expected...then decide that RV is wasting away in their driveway.

Every time my old rattletrap has an issue I think about getting a newer truck. I see the price tag and just laugh, find the parts I need and fix my 17 year old truck. Yeah it's louder and doesn't ride as well as a newer truck, but the bitch is paid for.

Both of those could be remedied for not much.... its the dodge body falling apart that's the hard part.

@Curtis_H has a slide in camper. Had to rebuild the roof, and when he tore into that thing we saw how cheaply they were made. Mind blowing, the mark up of campers is insane.

And yes unfortunate most elders don't get to live out their dreams like that. If they're not at the Dr like you said they may be raising grand kids.

On another note, this thread derailed a long time ago! Where are the 2015+ diesel truck owners? Lol.

Guess if you were middle aged, financially smart and had saved and really wanted one and decided that's what you wanted to do with your hard earned money then I might could see it. But I cant understand teens and early twenty somethings buying these trucks with little money down and being upside down on them in 2 years.

If you put $20k down on one with a $10k trade in, you STILL owe $30k on a Lariat 250/350. That's a LOT of money and payments for this simple minded guy here.

And speaking of truck price inflation: I remember a post from @jeepinmatt said he bought an older high mileage Duramax, drove it several years, then sold it for more than he paid for it!
Maybe he will chime in.

From the douche-nugget fest (Piedmont diesel drags) last year...NOTHING but +/-25yr olds there in these trucks....I felt like I was some kids DAD walking around. Seriously...I was the oldest guy there (on the drag side....on the pull side were older adults...but they weren't in douche-cruisers)

They must all make killer money and know something I don't or are in debt to a number that don't register in my head.

I owe the bank(s) $120k including my house which makes 105 of that, not that I care to share my personal info, but I don't feel that's too bad being another 7k of that is school loans...

I work very hard and do without a lot of things to not add to that number.

They also live with 3 roomates in a house or apartment so make rent cheap as crap and then have a truck. That is how a lot of them are actually. Then still they are up to their eyes in debt on a truck. Then they put their mods on a credit card.

I own a 930 sqft rental home in Clover, SC.
2 bedroom 1 bath.

Very nice house for what it is. It was built in the 60s and its totally updated. Nice yard etc.

It rents for $600/month which is top of the line for a 2/1 around here.

Young couple has lived there 4 years now. They keep the place impeccable inside and out and are super nice and always on time with the rent.
He drives a '15 F-350 King Ranch Diesel
She drives a 14 or 15 X550i

They have 3 kids.

So for those of you playing at home they live in a $75k house and have $150k+ in cars in the driveway while their 3 kids share a single bedroom

Here's my personal info for the day:

I'm 30 years old; that means I've been driving for ~15 years. In those 15 years I have owned 12 different vehicles. First one was purchased by my dad so I'll exclude that one, but the other 11 combined don't add up to 60k.

These guys see other people with it, and they need to have it too. There is no regard for individual financial responsibility. And to be an equal opportunity hater, a girl I work with just finished paying off the loan on her Audi Q5 S-type that she bought fresh out of college. Though she is an engineer and completely able to make the payment, all I can think is: why?

I just choose to look at it as priorities and personal choices.

It isnt right or wrong, if the person is able to make the payments.

Hell I wrote a check last week for more than many vehicles Ive bought just for an engine for a project Im working on that when completed will probably be driven 4 times a year.
To many folks that is dumb....but every time I hear those 427 cubic inches of Windsor small block scream I intend to count that as $100 of ROI. Its a helluva lot cheaper than a couch session.

I just wanna know what ROI means?

Perhaps if fuel prices went up substantially again that could be the bursting point?

In 2009 when there was a gas shortage and when you bought it you had to pay $5 a gallon I bought my 2007 F350 diesel for $17,000 with 24k on it. I still have it and have done the proper maintenance to keep it running for several more years.
