2018+ Expedition, Suburban/Tahoe, Sequoia

Yeah, but you do that every 130k and roll on. The service writer was talking about trucks that had new valve bodies and then new transmissions within the first 25k. Sure, that's under warranty... But who wants to spend $80k on a truck just so it can sit in the service lot?
Every 130k for a new transmission? 10000% unacceptable.

Ron's post says he's got a 1500 with a 6L60, which is weird. Doesn't mention how often the fluid was changed, if any of the replacements were under warranty (should be covered for 100k), whether the replacements were done correctly, if he's fond of neutral drops, etc.
I'm not sure how there is missing info but lets try....

2014 Chevy Silverado High Country.
Dad bought brand new. At 32,000 miles the torque converter was replaced under warranty. At 70k it was bad and a New GM transmission was purchased.
Part number - 19431764 .
(FYI all 2014-2019 GM 1500s had the 6L60 - not sure whats weird about that.)
Swap done by the Chevy Dealership. Transmission warranty is only 60k miles not 100k. Dale Earnhardt Chevy did the swap I still have the receipt to prove it.
At somewhere around 165k miles this one found 3 extra Neutrals.
BTW during all this time the truck was driven by my 60 year old Dad up and down the highway towing nothing heavier than a bass boat..and no neutral dumps.
Chevy troubleshot it for over a month. Meanwhile the Service manager said "they know this trans is garbage they are just hoping you will quit fighting"
Dad frustrated with the POS bought another New GM transmission.
This time the revised heavy towing option Part Number - 19431767 and had it and an aftermarket TC installed by a 3rd party shop. (Still got that receipt as well)
At this point he wanted a new truck and sold it to me for a deal with a brand new transmission for me to give Lane when he went off to college in 2019.
60k miles later its again on the way out.

You seem to want to defend them - not sure why - they are known as garbage and are the biggest weak link of all GM trucks.
There is a whole corner of the internet dedicated to 6l60 memes

Isn't is a 6L80?

My 2015 sierra had the fluid and filter swapped in the 60k range and was operating perfectly at 92k when it was sold. Hauled the jeep all over the place including Moab with a 27hr non-stop stint.

Now the 6L80e in my 2009 G8 GT was hot garbage and resulted in my only keeping that car 6 months.

Just like LS have shitty oiling systems and they suck ass.

There are plenty of known ways to fix the 6L problems. Most problems are linked to the PWM apply logic of the converter lock up programming.

They are really strong when programmed well.

Theses a whole thread on here somehow about how awful the 6speeds are.
For those that have trouble with reading comprehension, the point being made was that the 8 speed and 10 speed are less reliable than the 6 speed.

My last G8 GT transmission sucked so bad. Really made the car unenjoyable. You were also sitting there bracing yourself for a mystery hard shift.

I’d buy a new gm with the plastic lifter cages and transmissions that bomb at 100,000.

For anyone keeping score, I smoked a 6l80 this morning. 154k on the clock. I'm currently limping around Greenville with 1 gear. Feels like 2nd. Fluid looks like engine oil 😂

I heard routinely changing the fluid helps :flipoff2:

According to the owners manual maintenance schedule, the transmission fluid should be changed at 45,000 miles and again at 90,000 miles. In other words - at the first interval, you change the fluid, at the next one the transmission will have new fluid since the transmission was just replaced.

My wife had a 2019 expedition that she really liked but I made her trade it in. It was a comfortable vehicle and the gas mileage was decent. However, the turbo never really sounded right (rattled at start up and when idling) and at about 30k miles the noise was getting more and more pronounced. I figured if the morons at the dealership started digging into it I would be visiting them on a regular basis to keep fixing it and no one has time for that. With the market the way it was/is, I was able to get more on trade in than what we paid for it initially so I sat patient to find a sequoia.

October 21 I ended up finding a 2022 sequoia that the dealer wasn't trying to markup with bs charges so we moved on it. While the mileage is obviously worse with the 5.7 and the 6 sp, if I'm conservative on the throttle I can actually pull better mpgs than what it's rated for (13/17, but I can pull 19 on the highway). The interior is dated but ok. Runs like a champ, fun to drive with the power and gear ratio (4.30) and overall just feels way more rugged and better built. She wants a small lift and bigger tires but we love it and know it'll last for a while.

I wish I could have talked my wife into a Sequoia....

I couldn't talk myself into a Sequoia. The best I've got with my 2021 Z71 Tahoe is 23 mpg over a 50 mile stretch. That was pretty ideal conditions, but I'm pretty routinely pulling down 20-21 for around town and highway driving, and 9 mpg pulling my travel trailer in Tow/Haul mode. I did pay full MSRP for it because there were three people in line behind me to get it. My brother is a GM salary employee and got me the family discount, but the dealership wouldn't honor it. Basically, they said they didn't have to, so they didn't.

$6000, 1 new transmission and 1 new radiator and we should be back in business tomorrow

Wife's DD is a 2020 Expedition. She really likes it and I gotta agree, it's a solid ride.
The 3.5 TT has plenty of ass, gets 18-22 mpg and even tows well.
Best thing is the keyless entry keypad. For us talking dogs everywhere we go, it allows us to lock it, engine running and not worry about theft.

That’s the same warranty the local shop up here gave us when we had to replace the trans in our 2012
Was that a rebuild or a gm unit? My transmission guy doesn't rebuild the 6L. Said by the time he gets all the parts it doesn't make sense, just buys a gm unit with warranty.

Yeah that's what my guy does. When the first replacement goes out, it then goes to the dealership for the warranty trans.
