2019 Silverado

Growing up in the north all I see with all these wazoo tailgates is more places to trap salt and grime that = rust!

Chances are, with all the sensors, actuators, computers etc that thee new cars have, the owners will have pulled a @jeepinmatt and burned them to the ground after spending $1000's on repairs 3 months after warranty expires so very few will make it to rust status of the 70's/80's era vehicles

That ram split tailgate looks useful for shoving pallets in with a forklift.

I've installed many dents in tailgates with a forklift.

You just have to master the double bite with the forks. It also helps to have a forklift with decent brakes. I have one that I would never dream of loading a pickup with. It's all or nothing on the brakes so delicate tasks are out of the question.

FYI you can remove the assist handle and sell it on eBay for $80 https://www.ebay.com/itm/232651768654
And replace it with a $40 standard tailgate panel.Compatible Aftermarket Gate Access Cover - Get All Parts
That also makes the tailgate lighter, and completely eliminates the stupid hump.

I did this to mine right before I had it Line-X'd, so it bonus points for it matching.

Now that's a damn "Pro Tip" if I ever seen one.

Need to do this on my dads truck ASAP.

That’s right. That damn hump for the handle can be a PITA sometimes. Like when you have a bed full of 8’ lumber and close the tailgate, that hump presses against the lumber and jambs the tailgate and it’s nearly impossible to open it up, especially with a tonneau cover. Ugh.

Hey now... they really built that tailgate to allow you to put a 4x8 sheet of plywood in, while leaving the tailgate up. The step feature was just extra. Or atleast that is what they would likely tell you.
Or, buy a long bed

Ain't got that problem with a short bed :p
