I have a Currie high 9" 3rd member ( uses 8.8 gears) with an ARB that is 35 spline

I then bought 35 shafts from @ECGS and when I try to assemble them they will not go together.

I have counted and triple checked to make sure everything is 35 spline and that the correct lenghts are right.. what looks different to me is the spline cut look to be different angles.. I even used a piece of wood with hammer to see if they were just close enough that once started the would work, but no dice..

has anyone else run into this?
any ideas?

one I thought of but did not do yet was to use a file on shaft splines.. because the shaft splines look more "squared" then the arb ones.. the ones in housing look more pointy.

Thanks for anyhelp

IIRC ford uses a different pressure angle on the splines, I would talk to ARB or the shaft supplier to see if they might have used different profile cutter. You can likely get them to go together but unless the spline profiles matched I would not run them.

The end of the splines probably need to be filed a bit. ECGS has cut to length semi float 60 shafts on hand. So they cut them to length before shipping them out. Maybe someone didn't smooth them out as much as they needed to. I recently installed a set of them in a D60 ARB and had to touch up the splines just a little bit.

I had some similar issues with some shafts when using drive slugs on the front. The slugs were just VERY VERY tight and I had to beat them on with a hammer. I tried another brand of shafts and they slipped on great. I think I had Nitro that were difficult to use and the Yukons were OK.

I filed the splines on the Nitros and they worked better.

Is it just a standard RD99, straight out of the box? Should be 30* 35 spline, same as the D60.

It for a front axle setup currie 9" whir arb 35 spline with Dana 60 outer knuckles. Chevy Dana 60 inner and outer 35 spline shafts

Shafts don't matter. Dana stuff is all 30 degrees, and you already said a slug fits. What about the locker? Is it a standard, unmodified rd99?

FWIW, my chromos form ECGS I just installed. Passenger side went in smooth as silk. I had to beat the driver side in with a deadblow hammer and it like to wore me out! Probably should have filed some :)

Nobody on PBB said anything that James didn't say at 9AM this morning.

I was directly referring to the business card trick and knowing that if they were 45/90 they WOULD NOT WORK in an ARB.

by knowing that I can now move forward with a file

You knew that already, because the D60 slugs fit.

Have you tried putting a stub shaft through the locker yet? What's the story on that? Is it just a regular RD99?

so then its a RD99 ARB.

Until he pulls the third and bench tests the shaft fitment, it's a huge unknown. Could have been screwed up by the PO, could be 31 spline, could be any number of things.

Well pulled the 3rd between kids birthday parties did a little filing and everything fits. Now I just need to put it it all back together
