First, that replacement engine from Chase runs great, uses less gas and DOESN'T FRIGGING LEAK! Thanks again!

Now for a few even more recent modifications:
1. The tow hitch I bought at the Swap Meet for $4:
1a. The pair of tow rings from Northern I added:

2. Remember that TJ bumper? GONE at last! Here's what I put on instead:

Looks almost the same, you say? Look a little closer...

Okay, what IS that, I can hear you all asking. (Well, at least a couple of you...) It's a piece of 3" x 5" ANGLE IRON about 1/4" thick or so!

Red Neck Desperation ?
No. It's a bumper that'll stand up to ramming a boulder, for less than $40. Don'tcha wish YOU'D thought of it? :flipoff2:

I can probably get a 2" hitch welded in later, and it's also more than strong enough to mount a winch on. Nyaaahhhh!

You keep thinkin' that, let us know how it works in the REAL world

Yea man, get out there and WHEEL that thing! And hit something with that bumper! The paint is way too clean looking.

OK I gotta ask... what is up with the wheel well covers and the bug glass?

he doesnt want to mess up his purdy paint. i dunno what else it could be for. if it were on my truck, trees and branches would have ripped it up a long time ago.

as long as you are happy with your rig, that's all that matters.
glad you like the bumper and I agree it's an improvement from Jeep Parts.

don't ever worry about web-bashers man. they suck ;) :flipoff2:

Actually, the wheel covers are common up north where they're required. They're mudflaps riveted on (by the PO). I'd love to have something similar for the CJ for mud. They'll keep you a bit cleaner, but if they get hit they fold up. If they get hurt they were cheap, so new ones aren't a big deal. They're just ugly.

I'd definitely look at getting better rings in the rear, or keep the hitch pin available. People aren't going to want to hook to them for recovery.

Oh, I plan to wheel it. Gotta finish paying for that engine first. And that paint is "clean looking" because I just put it on there. Wait...

Actually, I put those on myself, down here. They're screwed on, and they're really rubber edging strips (like baseboards) for bathrooms and such. Total cost @ $6 each. And I got the idea from similar flaps on the front fenders of M-60A1 tanks.

And hey... they work, too. I just wish they came in 5' lengths instead of only 4'.

They're just ugly.
Depends on your definition of "ugly", I guess.

Why not? They're about 5/16" thick and solid, with Grade 8 bolts holding them onto the hitch frame that's almost as thick. And yeah, the hitch pin is in the back too.

Oh, and I've had a bug deflector on the S10 pickup that Jimmy replaced since forever. Those WORK, too. See no reason to stop using one.

It could be for keeping mud and crud off ALL of the truck, if only because it's hard enough getting this NC clay off the bottom half!

Ya know after looking at pics again. I think you should paint it Camo ..... it would look good
Well, golly... why didn't I think of that?

That's fine for the frame and suspension. Not such a good idea on the doors, hood or fenders.
