All Inclusive Resort Question

So we found out last week that my wife's office is taking their office to an all inclusive resort and they are paying for the spouses to go as well. So they are asking for suggestions on where to go. I have never been to an all inclusive resort and they seem to be talking about Cancun, Cabo, or the DR. I've heard that the resorts in Mexico are nice but not to wander outside of the resort, which I don't really plan on doing regardless of where we go, just wanted some input on where you all recommend, so I can throw my hat in the ring on suggestions.

Also, will be only the 3rd time I have ever flown and I am not particularly excited about it. Trip is scheduled for February and I already feel a little anxiety about it.

Look into Excellence Playa Mujeres in Cancun. I personally know over a dozen couples that have been and they convinced us into going and we can't wait to go back. The service and resort itself was nothing short of outstanding. Everything was so good we really had no desire to leave the resort.

Cabo is the only resort area I've been to, and it was amazing. But it's on the wrong side of the country. I'd imagine they'll be leaning towards Cancun, Bahamas, etc because of travel cost/time.

We did several off resort things. Did a jeep tour that took us to this little shack restaurant with the best tacos I've ever eaten. Took a taxi into town and browsed the shops. We didn't get mugged or kidnapped...

Make sure they don't go to Club Med Sandpiper Bay in Port St. Lucie, Florida. Wife and I went there last year with another couple and it was a dump. Food wasn't bad, drinks had zero consistency, not much to do for activities on site, etc. We have a better time going to my parent's condo in North Myrtle Beach.

The DR is great. We’ve been a few times and always enjoy it. Venture out. Find a tour guide that is NOT part of the resort.

Not a fan of DR, our best times in Mayan riviera, Cancun and Jamaica have been off resort. Doesn’t take much effort into researching and reading reviews of resorts to figure out where to go or not imho.

Work took all of us to Hard Rock in Cancun/Maya Riviera....it was cool for what it was.
Im not an all inclsuive type of guy. Id rather rent a house and an "island jeep" and explore the native areas myself.
Though you do ahve to be careful in Mexico

Really depends on what her coworkers look like :huggy::stirthepot:

I have been to Hedo twice, sun palace in Cancun and the all adult Hilton in Playa del Carmen. All nice but all three very different. For a work outing, I suggest the Hilton. Seven restaurants and the quiet area were very nice. They also have an event most nights.

Jamaica has been our favorite. Been multiple times. Found a guide there that is awesome. She is from upstate NY and has lived in Jamaica since dropping out of college there on vacation in the early 70s. She takes us to off the beaten path places and knows the island and locals. It’s often that on trips with her it’s her, her husband, and my family. One on one service at prices less than the tour bus type guides. She will set you up with whatever you want, simple rafting trip or even as much as a hole in the wall place to stay, diving, hiking, drinking, or even some Jamaican cigarettes.

every time we go we set everything up with her. Been very pleased every time. When the typical tourist sites are too crowded and close the gates, we have 1 on 1 service to secret places and always have a great time.

That sounds killer. We've been to Jamaica a couple times and really like it.

We did Sandals in the Bahamas...fantastic time & I agree to get a "guide" not associated w/ the resort - it was like a 2nd vacation.

The wife & I would go back tomorrow...the Cabo resorts sound great!!

Since on the topic, any of the places listed, do not drink the water (ok most people know this) but what will get you is if they use ice from a non filtered machine or not from an ice company. The one that gets most people is brushing your teeth, use bottled water.

Or eat the salad. We were super careful when we went but I got sick and I was like WTF man we've been careful and one of the workers there was like "did you eat the salad?" Apparently they will rinse them before they bring them in so even though the resort is certified you can get the poops.
