Alright big talkers...

Time is holding me back. And I’ve researched starting a non profit quite a bit. I would need to spend a few grand and basically have a lawyer do everything. It would be a ton of time to get started. But once started, I would eventually quit my job and pretty much full time be coordinating these visits, bids, projects and updates at all the off road parks in the southeast and eventually expand to even more areas.
But I’m guilty of being a dreamer. The non profit start up is fuzzy cause there’s nothing at all like what I envision to compare to.

I looked into something similar for an unrelated (to four-wheeling) non-profit several years ago...we wanted it to be a fully funded foundation, so could spend time actually doing good for the community, rather than spending 75 percent of our time begging money contributions just so could make the next payroll. Figured out, at that time, it would take at least 2.5 million invested for each person out on the road. That was figuring 4% annualy going to salary and expenses.

Ok so some pictures of the trails from '08.

So there was some negative feedback on my vision, albeit realistic and appreciated.

However there was a lot more positive reaction to it. I have one friend who seriously supports this idea and believes in it. And many of you say you think it’s a good idea as well. So where do I go to get this off the ground?

I’ve read all about forming a non profit, but the paperwork gets complicated. Especially when it asks for something similar to compare to. Which until today I had nothing similar to list, but a podcast changed that while mowing today.

So, it seems my next step would be a lawyer well versed in forming a non profit. Any suggestions around the Greensboro/Winston/High Point area?

Did you see the thread Ken started? Maybe he has started the first step?

I think he just has the rights to that domain.

Yeah my understanding is he just owns the domain. My vision is much bigger than just our state. There’s also very little parks in NC at this time. So that limits who’s willing to be a part of this thing.

The land is for lease for $10/acre

Wonder if it’s possible to lease less than the whole thing…

Says right in the ad .... may split.

So 52 - 53 people @ $1000 per membership.... Then you have to think about insurance. Anyone know anything about that. Set up an LLC to rent the land? Thoughts? What else?

So I was thinking about this. Personally I think a purchase is a better idea. But who is going to give us millions of dollars to buy land to build a park on... So back to lease. Seems to me the best way to do ti is set up an LLC and have that lease said land. Put monies in a escrow until monies reach amount needed. Need to check on insurance. I have a lawyer friend I can talk to. I'd want to try and do a couple events to try and build up the LLC accounts so there is money there for the ins and rent for the next year use dues too keep it leased. Am I thinking wrong? Any other input?

I dont recall how the land is split up... but i know folks that easily spend $1k on a hunting lease each yr, with a club. Not sure where that limit would be, but if you could divide part of it into 250-500 acre lots, and a group of people lease each part, that might help cover to total.
