Alu. fuel cell

A buddy of mine kept on having trouble with his tank cracking so this is what I came up with.

This is the old tank...

I sheared the pieces out of 3/16 slick alu.

Then broke out the pieces...

I used this to brake all the stuff, 14 foot CNC standard....

Then TIG welded it all up...

I have to build them at work, so I don't get a whole lot of opportunities to work up there. If I had the stuff to do this at my shop I would be all over it.

nice work. without sounding like an ass, is he using any type of padding on the feet? maybe that would absorb some of the vibration and help resist cracking?

It is mounted on 1/2" rubber pads. The old one was I think like 16ga. (three steps above foil) and this one is 3/16". The old one was made for going around in a circle in the trunk of a car not beating around in the woods. I've built a few of them, so far no problems.

Maybe use poly bushings when mounting it?

The old one was just too thin and it was not quality built. BTW - Polly is stiffer than the rubber he is using.

Buddy of mine has a alum fuel cell and his is mounted with some sort of spring set up.
