Noticed I busted a big chunk out of my wheel last trip. Still holding air but I have another wheel to replace this one. Question is it worth buying and installing rock rings on these h2 wheels or would it be better to buy steel wheels. I already have the internal staun bead lock so don't need full diy beadlocks.

Not sure weight savings aluminum wheels vs steel but steel rock rings are 8 lbs ea and aluminum are less then 2 lb ea. Would like to stay aluminum seem like less rotating weight would be better but don't want to spend time and money on rock rings just to have them bust or crack.

Any body have any experience with the aluminum rock rings.

Forged aluminum is where it's at! Seems like welding a rock ring in a cast aluminum rim (such as H2s) might not work so well, but I'm no expert.

Guessing forged aluminum wheels would most likely bend instead of break off like my cast wheels did?

Most of the time, but they will still crack also. While you could get rock rings from a harder alum, once they are welded they loose their temperament; unless you can re-heat treat the wheels as a whole.

Steel wheels are likely to get damaged also without rings, but they typically are just dented/bent and can be hammered straight.

I had the guys at inner air lock make me some alum rings and then found a local guy to weld them on. Scott did the same thing. The main reason I did it was not have what happened to you happen to me.
