Just what NC4x4 needs, another Comanche build!! This one is going a slightly different direction than most of the other we have seen lately though. ;) It is nowhere near done, but I am going to post up the pics of what we have done over the past couple months.
Plans are 60s front and rear, rear discs, 4 link; 14 inch Fox Shocks, lots of tube, and all the stuff that goes along with that.
You will notice that I set up my old rear axle with 4-link brackets. Originally, the plan for better axles was to wait until this stage was done, but I had a change of plans.

Here are a couple of what it looked like before we started, in late August.

This is pretty much where it sits now, the end of daylight savings really hurts, so it will be hard to make fast progress on this. I REALLY want to have this thing done for the ECORS series next year, so that is my time frame, I guess.
 
Thanks Austin. I'm not gonna know what to do without popping shafts every trip out. (This is assuming the stock shafts hold up well until I can afford Chromos)


I am undecided on what I want to do for my steering. I have all the parts to run the standard 1-ton tie-rod ends already in my garage. Even with 35s, the steering on this truck has always sucked, so I am debating about using what I have and adding hydro assist, or going with Full hydro. I'm leaning towards assist, so that I can get it going with the parts I currently have then add on the hydro later, not to mention it would end up being cheaper. Would I regret it on a trail rig if I don't go full hydro?

Its been hell to try to find time to work on it between all the rain, getting dark so early, and with the holidays....... Also, i blew some of my funds on purchasing a second rig. I got too tired of not wheeling and was losing motivation.

I'm really hoping January is going to be a good month for the MJ, I still want to finish it up pretty badly.
 
I think thats one of Corey's old rigs. If it is...does it still have the 3.slow in it?

Are you happy with your XRC winch? I'm thinking really had about keying in the debit card number and ordering me a 12k

Always a bad idea, now the mj will never be finished. :shaking::flipoff2:

It looks fucking awesome though. You might look into one of the cheap harbor freight "temporary carports". I'm in the same boat working outside with no cover. sucks.

I'm not sure. It does have the 3.0 in it. It has changed hands at least 3 times in teh last few months til I got a hold of it. Last owner who used it was named john,(3 owners ago)

I have had an XRC8 on my MJ for a while, and the yota came with one too. I was always pleased with mine. the power isnt incredible, but sufficient, it always worked. It is slow, but that means less people will want you to pull them out!

I thought about the carport thing, but for some reason my girlfriend vetoed that :rolleyes: It sure would make things easier.

If its the same guy That dude is a b*tch and i hope he burns in hell :fuck-you: If i ever run into him again im gona bust a pipe upside his head...He screwed me out of time/Cash and a title..when i sold/did some trading with him on that 4runner..but ya live and learn..when i had it Chase at ECGS put all new head gaskets and etc on it. So i know its had at least 2 sets done:beer:
get the mj going..im ready to see it in action:driver:

thing looks like it's about to lift off

Too bad I share partial blame on not helping get this thing finished. living 45minutes away suxors for frequent build days
 
im no suspension guru so you can tell me to go back to my diffs but i think you lower links need to mounted lower on the axle tube they appear to be above the centerline of the axle so your pinion will try to rotate up until it binds on your upper link. it may roate enough to bind your yoke and break it or it may rip your upper link mount off. Or i may be a complete moron and proceede. someone with some suspension knowledge can fell free to correct me.

seriously though, it will work but the lower link mounts will see a massive amount of stress mounted that way
 
I think it is more of an optical illusion in that one picture. You can see the bolt head if you look really hard in this one:

They are mounted exactly at the axle centerline.
